CAN ANYBODY HELP!! a dear friend of ours has a pony with grass sickness. We are now up to day 24 so have battled through what is supposed to be the worst and the grass sickness symptoms seem to be easing however she has now stopped eating completely. Does anybody have any experience with grass sickness at this later stage or any ideas of how to get her to take some food... Tips and advice on how to stimulate appetite right now along with anything else that worked for you would be hugely appreciated. Please note we have been in touch with the Grass Sickness Fund and they have offered lots of advise and support but we are now starting to run out of ideas and having come so far we want to make sure no stone has been left unturned!

Many thanks for reading x

I am sorry, I know nothing about grass sickness, but i know what you are going through at the moment. My only suggestion would be puree carrots and apples and perhaps syringe them in? Fingers crossed and thinking of you both.

Thanks for posts and PM's everyone. She has has a better day today... grazing on and off and had some feed although still only very small amounts. Now that the GS symptoms have all but gone and everything is still working we are concentrating on getting her to eat and build her up.... she is a little fighter and every day that goes by get us closer to recovery!

I lost my boy Magners last month to sub-acute grass sickness. Such a horrible disease. I have made a group on facebook in memory of him. I want to spread awareness.

Please look at documents on the group which have lots of links to different info on different sites.

I have just made an album in memory of all horses that have suffered with GS. If anyone would like a picture posted, post one on the wall with a comment and I will add it to the "In memory of..." album.

No real advice but just to say I hope your friends mare pulls through, she sounds like a fighter.

If you can maybe pop to a feed merchants and explain, they may have sample bags that you can try and see if she will eat any other types of food!
