over posting but still!!! So new horsey is great but really chubby so what can i do about this ? hes on about an 1hr of work a day and not being fed... so
hes a cob type (so big naturally) 15.2, 8yrs old, like 1hrs hacking a day and then a lesson(hopefully) every two weeks and ive had him for 3 days lol he lives out all year round on his own and isnt feed. grass is ok but quite short but he gets some hay! so how do i de-chubb him?
Well, seeing as you havnt got use of that posh school anymore, you could find a corner of a field and lunge him. Twenty minutes on the lunge (working correctly, not just being chased around with a whip
) will have the same benefits of an hours hack.
Maybe he is just like some humans, big boned, fat and happy
Dont worry about over posting, its so nice to get to know new HHO'ers.
Ah just been to have another look! He doesn't look horrendous tbh. Have you changed his management? Not so bad to have a teeny bit of weight going into winter anyway. I reckon it's going to be work all the way with him. Lucky you just have to hack twice a day!!
Glad you're so happy with him! He looks like quite a character! I bonded with my new horse straight away and looks like you have too. He's certainly ok to be going out twice a day if you have the time. I do it with Star and as a result I am more confident with her than people at my yard who have had their horses for 3 years who still get nervous each time they get on. Only downside of course is I get through a set of shoes every 3 - 4 weeks!
I don't think he looked overweight on your pictures of when he arrived, he just needs to stay at that weight and no more - they are a heavy breed, you'll never turn him into a whippet.
I would agree there as he does not look chubby to me. Cobs are meant to be thick set if they are heavy types which he looks to me.
He looks just right in my opinion and is a lovely horse to boot
