Took Uno for an outing to Somerford Park farm ride today with a nanny horse. God he can jump (tiny logs require much air space)! God, he can buck too, he jumped so big up some little banks that he threw me up his neck, which scared him - he activated the ejector seat button after and I flew through the air (after sitting quite a few bronks), BIG STYLE! He cantered off, looked back at me and trotted back to me with a big smile on his face. Got back on and he walked sensibly back to the yard...he thinks I'm a right numpty!

But it has knocked me a little, please cheer me up!

i wouldn't worry about it...its just one of those things that happens when you put babies in new situations and they get themselves overexcited thats all. just chalk it up to experience, get him doing lots of grids and trotting poles- maybe he's finding jumping all a bit too exciting

but its good that he's wanting to go forward

You want to make sure you have a really secure saddle at this stage lol! The modern close contacts are great... but not always for bucking etc! Stuberns are very good for stickability, also a neck strap can be handy to stick your fingers through!

Thanks daisychain - always have a neckstrap! New saddle sounds good, lol! Plus, a bit more awareness next time - he is so good usually, I took it all for granted I think :-)

He's sensible and very mature when jumping at home - does grids, spooky fillers etc. Open spaces are a new phenomenon tho!

well he just needs some exposure to them then! farm rides! they are the way forward...i think better for babies than XC schooling as more like a hack with obstacles and less big wide open spaces!! think van is going to freak when he sees somerford's 80 acres! eep!
