Chunk missing from hoof?

my gelding managed to pull his shoe loose and has lost a chunk of hoof in the process! The shoe hasn’t come off though. He’s on stable rest until the farrier comes tomorrow.

I’ve not come across this before so is there anything else I need to do ?

Can't get the pic to display properly, but can you or someone else on the yard pull the shoe today? If it's left loose, it could twist round and the horse might tread on the toe clip or nails.

The farrier can then tidy it all up and refit the shoe when they visit tomorrow.

Most farriers have a putty that can be put into gaps like that might be worth asking about it.

Don't worry too much so long as the shoe hasn't twisted, the farrier can deal with it when he comes tomorrow.

No big deal. Will grow out. Do not stress about it. Dont stress. Dont be stressed out. Try and be calm. Be relaxed.

Can use a nappy to keep the shoe on/stop it from twisting - just wrap it around the hoof and use duct tape to secure it.
My horse had terrible feet when I got him and the farrier managed to nail the shoes on around the missing bits until his feet grew/improved. They're fine now thankfully!
