Chunkiest Muck boot sole?

Meh! I'm a Muck boot fan as my feet get cold in October and don't thaw til April so in winter I will only wear Muck boots to keep warm (unless I'm riding). At the beginning of last winter I bought a pair of Derwents, figuring they had a nice chunky sole but I've been disappointed that this year the tread has worn thin and I've not got the same grip I had last year :( Coupled with that the fact that two days ago I noticed the rubber starting to split - in a really weird place too, not even where the boot bends or folds, if you know what I mean(?), I'm feeling very disillusioned with Muck boots. Two previous pairs of Tynes only ever lasted me a couple of winters too before they split. (I don't wear them in summer)

Any alternative recommendations, Muck or otherwise?? *sigh*
 
I have a nasty feeling they have changed what the soles are made of. I bought a pair of Derwents a few winters ago which were fab and lasted 2 winters of hard wear, but unfortunatley put a fork through one so decided to treat myself to a new pair.

However with the new pair I was suprised to see I had worn down the sole within 3 mnths, and had to give up wearing them as were very dangerous.......I would slip down the hill leading horses and strained my knee skidding over in the muck trailer. This never happened with the old pair so won't be buying them again.

This winter I have given up on expensive wellies and bought a £10 pair of Dunlops that have not let me down yet. The only downside is having to wear more thermal socks, but the soles are showing no wear at all.
 
I could never manage to get more than 9 months out of a pair of Derwents before the soles wore smooth. I still think they're better than the ones I have now, which are the riding boot style with a smooth-ish sole
 
I have had the same problem, both my muckboots and a 12mth old pair of woof winter boots have died....hole in the heel/crack and no grip left so now all I am left with is a pair of robinsons wellies bought in 1998 to wear in minus degrees :(:eek: now wearing 4 pairs of socks instead of 2 and feet are still cold!!!!
 
The Muckboot Tays are quite chunky but quite a mannish boot, but Hunter have recently come out with a neoprene lined chunky ladies one called the Balmoral ladies neoprene funnily enough! Look online, I like the purple! Don't bother with their Original Neo's they do not last. x
 
i use my old muck boots all year round daily and have had them for 4 or 5 years :eek: rubbish grip in mud/snow/ice. But in the snow/ice i've got yaktrax which mean i have brilliant grip! not sure what i'd get next as really mis grip in mud :o
