We're off to Gatcombe next weekend and just want to make sure i'm prepared and have everything i will need!!

So to start what to people wear for trot up? is it much more low key and informal as only a CIC? Don't want to look over the top or under dressed so any advice much appreciated :) plus i don't have heaps of room to take lots of outfits :)

What else must i remember? anything on top of normal gear for a one day? we are stabling on the saturday night so have to pack all stuff for that, but if anyone has any tips or things that they've found they couldn't do without that would be great.

Also does Bud need to have his vacs within 6 months? i know there's a rule for CCI? he is due just after competition so not sure whether to wait til due date or get it done early

Thanks!!! :)

It's FEI so, yes, he'll need to have had a flu jab in the last 6 months (plus 21 days grace!).

The trot up is very informal, haven't done Gatcombe but it has been wherever else I've been - even up to CIC3*. Often it's quite close to your times so you may be in riding clothes. Otherwise just about anything will do.

What do you wear on your feet? Killer heels, whilst looking the part, would be decidedly painful, trainers are probably too decontracte and riding boots would look odd or kinky depending on the rest of the outfit. Are you consigned to "sturdy black lace ups" from M&S?!

Great thanks everyone will get jab booked in asap, good job i work at the vets now!

Will also not pack a special outfit for trot up and avoid wearing my bikini and flip flops :)

Just checked and trot up 5pm on the saturday, after dressage i assume then so will just have to clean Bud up and put something clean on and tidy on! :)

ideally trousers which are dark if horse's legs are light, and vice versa, i think. makes it easier for Ground Jury to see horse's legs clearly!
shoes you can run in (unless you want to get in H&H of course, in which case, killer stilettos are de rigeur... as long as you're prepared to cope with a broken ankle if horse has a wild moment!)
If horse has dodgy legs and you don't, a really really short skirt or very tight pair of white jeans, with a much-too-tight shirt on top half. ;) ;) ;)

Have fun!

Remember you need 7(?) clear days after the jab before they can compete or go into event stabling. Check the rule book for exact number of days.If you are going to do it before Gatcombe do it as soon as poss in case he has a reaction to the jab and feels a bit off colour.
As for trot up clothes, last time at Gatcombe I was still in jeans so very informal.

You need 7 clear days before the 1st day of the competition. The injection needs to be within 6 months plus 21 days of the competition.
For the trot up tidy trousers (not too dressy) and sensible FLAT boots/shoes. Ground Juries are not impressed with high heels or ballet pumps and party clothes. The horse must wear a bridle and bridle number, be clean and tidy but need not be plaited for a CIC. If however the trot up is the same day as your dressage, then leave the plaits in.

Agree with all that has been said before, not the same as a CCI, so you can forget the "outfit" just something functional be that riding gear if necessary. More important that jabs correct and horse sound, rather than what you have on!

When I did knaptoft a couple of years ago the trot up was before my dressage literally I had to jump off and run him up before I warmed up! So def no out fit needed. As I remember at gatcombe there is a vet point just by the sj warm up and that's where they run them up. Very informal and nice and friendly. Good luck
