Hi,

Does anyone know if Cirencester Park Endurance will be on this year?
It usually is in June during the Solstice but can't find any websites giving the dates!
I watched some of the Endurance last year as it is next to where I keep my pony and really would like to take part in it this year...if it's on!

Thank you :-)

Have you checked the Cotswolds EGB website??

I used to share a pony in hacking distance from Cirencester Park, it was amazing fun to hack round there (and hacking home through a subway!!)

It's going to be even better this year - extra 'fun' classes and also coralling will be allowed so hopefully more people will be able to stay for all three days. It's a bit far for us to take the horses but we always enjoy going down to help and take our trade stand as everyone is so lovely :)

We don't make plans in endurance, because inevitably they'll go wrong - but all being well, I hope to be there for 2 of the 3 days. Not managed to ride there yet - last year I crewed for a friend (and had a fantastic time!) and the year before that, I'd entered, but managed to break my leg the day beforehand (part of the reason why we don't make plans!)

My record at Ciren is variable, but I love this ride.

First year did 40km novice, passed, gr 2 on the day when the record high temperatures were being set all over the UK. We went out in the worst heat of the day & girlie was fab.

Second year, entered 65km. Got 2/3 way round first circuit, back were it comes near the entry road to the venue with the sharp bend. Horse tripped, pulled off shoe, dumped me in nettles, then got up & ran, unfortunately through 3 wire (cattle) fences back to venue field. Was running after her imagining the worst (seeing the broken fences), car gave me lift back to venue to see my horse covered in blood tearing into the field. After much washing, pampering, 20 staples & a new shoe she got her fit to travel pass back home. 6 weeks later she went out & got a grade 1 at Alfred's Tower (going up that big hill twice), what a girl.

Third year we attempted 100km ER, vetted out vg2. Not surprised as she had a bad slip on course (where it used to cross that river valley & doesn't anymore). Saw her trot up & I saw the one bad stride the vet did so declined 3 card trick & withdrew her as I thought she was wrong as well. But had done 2 fab circuits on her.

Then she injured herself, horses! Went back last year (6 years after novice ride), entered in 40km adv. Did about 15km then she did the most horrendous spook at a tree stump (she always spots them before me the baggage). Left me hanging off side, damaged cartilidge & tendon in knee. Walked back to venue (horse fine, baggage), was helped off & seen to. Great people & organisers at Ciren, they really are pros.

Fingers crossed we get back to have another shot this year. Would so love to go & complete another circuit.

Also has fab memories as friends daughter riding her pony that they bought off the ramp of a meat wagon at a market, passed her first 80km ride there gaining advanced qualification for both of them. We were all in tears hugging that superstar pony.

If you get the chance, do this ride. Lovely canters, dark tracks, weaving through woods, open fields, it has so much. Also a fabulously organised ride & a real pleasure to go to.

My pony (13.2hh, 16year old Haflinger x Anglo Arab) is kept by Cirencester Park and this is why I would like to do the pleasure ride (16km). I have never done any Endurance rides before but I am sure he will be fine to do it as we already do a lot of trot, canter and walk in Ciren Park for hours! (I only hack with him)

EstherYoung, what do you mean by "fun classes" and what is "coralling" please?
I really hope I can do it as it looks "fun"!!!

My only worry is my pony getting all excited and being a pain seeing so many horses as when we see some in Cirencester Park he just wants to follow them all the time...or just stops(he can be stubborn...) and watch them until they disappear of his sight!

Haflinger x AA I would think would be quite good at endurance!

I'll answer on behalf of Esther (I'm sure she won't mind) (by the way, funny enough, the one time I have met Esther in real life was at Cirencester last year - I'm wondering if Esther's figured out who I am yet?).

Anyway,
"Fun Classes" - anything that is not classed in the schedule as a CR (Competitive Ride) or ER (Endurance Ride). Fun classes could be known as pleasure rides, NCRs (non-competitive rides) etc.

"Coralling" - Think of a corral in western films. A little pen to herd the horses into. What it means in our context is a small area of electric fencing (supplied by the horse's owner) which can be put up in an allocated area at the venue so that the horse can stay at the venue overnight if it is competing on two separate days (and the owner doesn't want to make use of the stables available - if any).

Oh and Randonneuse - yes, it is fun!!!

Thanks Faro,

Yes I bet it is fun!
Sorry I'm French ;-) never heard of coralling! (been living in the UK since Sept 2006 and brought my pony in May last year...had him since he was 4 so couldn't leave him with my mum forever really!!!)
Hopefully I'll be able to do the pleasure ride...or Fun Classes as you call it :-D
