City Foxhunting

Oh I didn't mean the sarcastic comment to be directed at you. Was directed at all those who think we're so mean and cruel to want to control these animals.

Poor little girls, wishing them a speedy recovery.

No haven't you heard????? It wasn't the foxes fault, it was self defence because poor fluffy Mr Fox wouldn't attack anything.

Seriously that was basically what one guy was trying to say on the news, after he had tried to suggest that it wasn't a fox and the family were lying/deluded/stupid/blind.

When we did the Countryside March all those years ago (all of the Marches) I actually said "they'll be taking kids out of prams next". I rest my case! World at 1 on Radio 4 is going to have an interview with the Council on how to control foxes!! Must listen.

I do feel it's pretty far fetched to be honest but then I hadn't the woman had actually seen the fox in the room (if indeed that is true!) The first reports suggested that everyone was in bed and my first thought was "what sort of idiots in east london leave their doors open at night?".

However, seems they were watching TV so still up. Still find it utterly bizarre a fox would wander into a house, go upstairs and 'attack' children. Very strange indeed.

I don't think its surprising or far fetched at all. They are so abundant in London I used to see them so often when I lived there. If you watch certain wildlife programmes for example they are always rescuing them from houses, buildings, workplaces and shops. And the fact that it's natural and frequent for them to tear apart lambs, chickens etc etc means they wouldn't distinguish between a baby human or baby sheep etc as it's their nature. I think the people in question are very lucky they got there in time!

I don't think its far fetched, it says in the story its not the 1st time.

Urban foxes are so different to wild foxes too, as the urban foxes are mangy, and if they were in the wild they would die off not being able to catch their food, where as in london they've only gotta go round the back of a kfc for a meal... And they are not as scared of humans as what the wild ones are!

I'm sure it's The Peckham. Field master Del Boy, Whipper-ins Rodney and Trigger.

I know this is a serious thing that has happened - but this did make me smile!

My thoughts are with those 2 little babies - I hope they recover fully. Apparently the Council (?) have laid traps in the garden and have caught one fox which has been shot.

I think there does really need to be a definate control on urban foxes as they are a nuisance.

I wonder if wheelie bins have made it harder for them to scavenge and so that is why they are entering houses?

I quite agree MistralS... The number you see in towns is bewildering. In 20odd years hunting I've never seen so many foxes as I did in the odd few times I visited OH when he lived down there. I remember we were walking back from dinner out one night, and stopped to cross the road to find that a fox had been strolling down the road behind us as if we weren't even there. It looked at us looking at it, crossed the road ahead of us and disappeared into the park.

Until that point OH didn't know what 'fox' smelt like, but certainly does now, and can soon pick up a faint odour on the breeze.

It really doesn't suprise me that this has happened. It only suprises me how long it took, and that everyone else seems to be suprised by it.

Urban foxes are unafraid of humans, even more so than stray dogs. I still find it astonishing but not unbelievable. I don't think it's a good move to use this as an argument for hunting though- completely different situations. Poor little kids.

Hmmn, perhaps I have been around long enough to smell a rat. The woman is the only person to have seen the fox?

We shall see how this story pans out!

I wonder if wheelie bins have made it harder for them to scavenge and so that is why they are entering houses?

Nope we've had wheelie bins round here for ages and there are loads of foxes in the suburbs.

They can eat the half eaten burgers and kebabs people drop, rubbish out of litter bins, rubbish not stored in wheelie bins, the food people put out for them, the food people put out for other animals, outdoor pets, other wild/ferrel animals etc.
