Hi Guys

Just wondered what all of you think is a reasonable time to wait to paid out by your insurance company before you start moaning.

The insurance company i am with seem to keep fobbing me off with excuses as to why i havent received the money for my vets fees claim yet.

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt but have been insured with them for 4 years now and recall that when i had a claim 3 years ago for a sarcoid that it took ages and loads of phone calls to get the money. Maybe I should think about changing when it comes up for renewal but they promised last renewal that their claims would be paid promptly.

Just wondered what any of you thought as my vets are chasing payment.

claimed twice and they settled both times with vet direct within 2 weeks. (with NFU)
i had a friend who was with E&L it took her months and months they were very bad

Also always been within the month with mine, SEIB. Just claimed from NFU so I'll let you know! Also had a friend who took months to get anything from E&L!!!

I am still waiting from e&l after my horse was put to sleep in April!! Yes - I know about their reputation now!!! Hindsight is a wonderful thing...

I've had several claims over the years through NFU. They have always been very efficient and settled directly with my vet within a couple of weeks. I have also had claims with them for transport to the vets and physiotherapy which I have had to settle before sending them a copy of the invoice. NFU have then settled with me within about 3 weeks.

Equestrain Direct paid out between 2 weeks and month everytime I claimed through them. Never had a problem. Amtrust Equine have been the same to.

wow that is quick. I have just had a really good quote from AmTrust actually so think you have persuaded me to go with them at renewal.

I am currently insured with Equestrian Direct!

I bet I can guess which company! I waited 6 months for a payment and then it was a fracti0on of the claim, my friend has just got a cheque for vets fees 4 months after losing her horse and they wont even look at the claim for death until the vets fees have been paid. I had 3 horses insured with them and I sure as hell changed once I had been paid! They are the cheapest for a reason. I use pet plan now and they arent much more expensive

That's worrying....I was actually with ED but when they changed underwriters Amtrust took all the policies with them and that's how AE ended up paying out my claim. Am still with ED, renewed with them in March. They were good with my exclusions though, Amtrust told them my horse needed to be excluded for the whole of his respiratory tract but ED were happy to go with just soft palate displacement (which is all it is).

Just write and say you want to make an official complaint and use the words "Insurance Ombadsman"! Its amazing how quickly they will react.. ( I work in insurance and these complaints get dealt with pronto)
