I have the hunter ones. They get very heavy when wet is my only criticism. They last for years and was up well. If you wanted them for hunting and it was boggy country I wouldn't fancy your chances of them staying put.
i used to love them until i learnt about tendons being cooked and damaged due to not being able to cool down when exercising at speed with certain boots on that are too good insulators... (foal tendons can cope with high temps, mature horses' tendons can't, and sustain damage, according to the lecture i attended.) i gave my clarendons away and now use xc boots which allow airflow around tendons.
Hate them. As Kerilli says they get far too hot, and IMHO dont offer much "tendon" protection at all as dont have decent strike protection. They also hold water.
They are very expensive and never last, I can gaurantee that the first time you jump XC in them a few of the straps will get broken. Of course if my horses jumped a bit higher I probably wouldn't have that problem
oh yes, forgot those bits! vastly inferior to NEW boots and Style boots imho.
come to think of it, my lad wore them round Windsor 3-day... he had to have silk wraps underneath cos they rubbed, and his tendons were never the same again... hmm.
if i buy any new boots for next year i'll get Dalmar, i think, compare them to NEW and Style ones i've got already.
Wouldnt bother Kerilli, they are not much better than cheaper imitations tbh! The best "air cooled" cones I have seen are the premier equine boots, but tbh the "holey" ones give me the heebies with bits of grit potentially working their way in.....
hmm, ta KatB, good to know. will prob stick to the ones i know and trust then!
oops, thanks DieselDog, that's good to know, i have rellies over there that'll send me stuff if i ask nicely...
N.E.W do ones with "wide" fit to fit larger boned horses, the Max performance ones are good. I love my prolites though for protection, though they havent worn as well as I would have liked!
Loathe Clarendon - My mother has some tendon boots that have fallen apart and they are made up of fluff and polysterene. Two fabulous insulators and no protection. They are far too easy to overtighten as well. I think they are the biggest waste of money.
You used to see them all the time eventing now nobody wears them for a damn good reason there are much better products out there.
For hunting I would choose fluffy NEW boots - I have never had hot legs and we hunt in clay there is never mud or grit underneath. They also have kevlar on the tendon. For eventing I have the lightweight NEWs which I am not that fond of but they do the job.
Got rid of my Clarendons after going Xc schooling and seeing how heavy they got when wet - would only use them for schooling now...
Have replaced them with GFS closed tendon boots and brushing boots on the rear - they withstood xc schooling really well, horses legs are never sweatey when taken off..
Had the PE aircooled ones and although i liked the actual boots they were a terrible fit and dirt got in them... never had NEW but don't really like them...
Equilibrium are launching and XC boot next year - waiting to see what that is like....
hi , can only say i both love and hate mine. tendon boots are not worth the money and fit is awfull. hunter and schooling boots are good for hacking and mine have lasted 4 years. but it is hard to find nice boots for big boned horses.
