My young horse is entered for a novice hunter trial tomorrow - we're on at 11.50am. It's just to be a schooling round, I've no doubt we'll be eliminated as he's still not confident enough to jump xc jumps he hasn't at least had a sniff of first!

I was then hoping to take him in the pairs class with a friend - however these times have just been published as 6pm! This is quite a long time to be hanging around. It is just a local show - 10/15 minutes in the lorry.

Would you wait around with haynet, assuming that it might be good for him to just chill out and get used to the show atmosphere. Would you leave and go back - let him have a haynet at home? Or just give up on the idea and head home after our first class.

Ideas please!

I would personally stick with just the 1 class, preferably the pairs, so your horse has something to help it on a scary course, being its first time! However, it is very late in the day, will be getting dark, and horse will be geting tired by then if its a youngster, so maybe go for the 1st class?

I would check the times for the pairs are realistic, that seems a bit too late if im honest..

I would just do the Pairs - Then he will have a nice fun confident round!
No point being (possibly) elminated at the 1st fence, then have to stand around for 7 hours!!!

:D - Go have some fun!

if its his forst time going to a show you want to make him feel that its a nice experience and leaving him stood around for ages might make him bored and not be as good at the next show
good luck whichever class you choose to do :)
