How can it be so hard to find one that will jump 1m sj and xc, hack and trot in a few polite circles as needed. That used to be what an Irish horse was. Middleweight, bit of bone, short coupled, moves off the leg and stops as required. It seems that many ISHs now have more than a slice of WB to them which in my experience brings a bit of opinion and unwanted spookiness. Looked at a 6yo yesterday which gave me a nice enough ride but I sensed some wb in the boing and a slight head shake of opinion on the flat, and lo it's SWB under the guise of ISH. Keep looking I guess. Oh and if anyone knows a 6-8yo 15.3 to 16.1 in Thames Valley/Midlands/south east, pm me! Gelding and being picky, no greys, life is too short for that much washing. Yes, I know how many irish horses are grey ;-) x
 
Because the ISH is bred for sport and that is what wins in sport now. Clue is in the name. ;)

Have you been in contact with ID breeders? What about Janet George on here?

If you're also anti-grey you will have a time, so not surprising you're struggling.
 
Or give Emma a call at Clip Clop traders to see what she knows of - website has a nice horse but a bit older than what you want. FWIW I have exactly what you are looking for bar the colour and the fact he is not for sale! I didn't want a grey but actually it's not an issue - I just often ride a dirty horse!
 
Thanks will try JG. Haven't been to pangbourne this time, theirs are usually younger than I want I think. May waive the no greys rule when I run out of brown and orange ones, tho 15 years of the lovely lady of my avatar who went from iron grey to white with shades of beige and yellow are still a little too fresh in my memory...
 
Just because a horse has warm blood in it, doesn't make it a bad horse, it's just stereotyping.

I used to have a horse exactly as you described; he was as thick as two short planks and needed accurate riding...

Look at the horse in front of you not the stereotype!
 
No it doesn't I agree but I just sold an Irish wbx ISH mare after 2 years of trying to get on and that couple of little actions reminded me of her, all just a bit too close to home. His sire is Jack of Diamonds and I thought I was riding an idx until I looked up the pedigree and saw swb which surprised me, given all/little I know of that line has been IDxs. Had a Diamond line mare before no WB in that. Learning all the time.
 
Would you look at IDxTB?

They could technically be described as warmblood (ID cold, TB hot) and are the traditional ISH!

There are loads of IDx in Ireland that would fit your description but due to their easyness can often have a decent pricetag :)
 
I WANT a IDxTB, didn't expect it to be this hard and really was just registering surprise at an irish ...of diamonds stallion being half european warmblood on sire side, but then I don't buy horses very often. Paying the right money for the right horse is fine but I've yet to meet it. I'm sure it will be on a boat over before too long if I keep looking. :)

I have an Irish ISH, no warmblood in lineage at all (ID), but he's a spooky devil, opinionated and tricky at times. I wouldn't swap him for the world but I do envy my friends their rather-more-sensible WB's!
 
This is my boy http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/fifty+shades (apologies for his name - long story) You have to click on his dam sire to see the TB pedigree of Regal Sting. Not an iota of dumblood to be seen.

As said earlier, Emma from Clip Clop got him for me. You couldn't wish for a better horse of the type you are looking for (except for the grey!!)
 
I have been looking for exactly the same thing for 8 months!!! If i dont come across something soon i am probably going to head to Ireland as im told there will be plenty there.
I have a decent budget and would go up to 16.2/16.3. Have you tried any other dealers?
 
I think I've done the rounds of the most prominent dealers (and the ones to avoid), more will come on the market over next few weeks I'm sure. Unless they're all still in Ireland as the ones above suggest!
 
I have what you want but shes only 5 & a mare but I dont think il be letting her go unless I get offered something that would be stupid to refuse

I would def go to ireland you can get so much more for your money they may not be as well schooled by I can guarantee that they will be so educated !
 
I have exactly what your after unfortunatly he's full warmblood... Dont knock the breed i wanted an ISH when i was looking and ended up with him instead, wouldnt change him for the world! Good luck on your hunt!
