Classical riding teacher

Hello everyone !!
I will be moving to Lancashire soon. And was wondering if anyone knew of any good classical riding teachers? I’ve not been riding very long, but have been making good progress with my teacher , who teaches classical. So really want to continue . Thank you .

Oh dear. The lack of response makes us Lancastrians look a bit unsophisticated doesn't it!
Can't help I'm afraid, but ask your instructor for contacts, or get in touch with Myerscough College and enquire from their instructors.

Hi you could try Sue Carr at Jigsaw in Mawdesley or Hannah Doggett, I find those who have ridden PREs are more likely to ride and teach in the classic style.

Thank you . I’m so surprised there isn’t more instructors that teach this method. I thought Lancashire would be teeming with with classic instructors. Perhaps once I get acquainted with area, I’ll find out more. Thank you for your help.

Posts in the regional boards on the forum can get missed. You may be better off asking in one of the many Lancashire area horse groups on Facebook.

Irvine Ross - he's listed on classicalriding.co.uk and I always had good experiences with him. He's based in Cheshire but may be willing to travel, depending on where in Lancs you are.

What kind of classical riding are you interested in - believe it or not, there is even sections within sections of riding... bit like yoga or pilates (crude example!) however, it would be good to know what sort of thing you're after? Sylvia Loch? Mary Wanless? Heather Moffat? (Off the top of my head) or maybe those wandering teachers from Spain and Portugal or schools like Philippe Karl and Brent Branderup... there's flavors for all.....

Yes there are definitely differing opinions, but I’d imagine purists would argue that you keep methods as close to the classical masters as possible . And the technique is clear. Stay in balance with the horse as possible. I really don’t like Mary wanless techniques. I find her methods interferes with the horse far too much. Too much noise, and our cues need be quiet, in rhythm and in balance .
