classifieds people use

I have used the following classifieds - and here are my own experiences from them...

Horsemart - good, cheap way of advertising, but I wouldn't advertise anything over £3500 on there, as just never got any calls. Anything I have advertised under that, phone has not stopped ringing. Only trouble is a lot of numpties calling and texting that have no intention of buying, just want a free ride. Costs approx £12

Horse and Hound - only worth advertising when you can afford a coloured picture (this is only personal experience). Everytime I have advertised anything just in lineage ad, I haven't had a single call. Add a picture (for another £100) and get a few calls. Definately a lottery this one. Costs vary greatly

Horsequest - Lots of info, lots of pictures, not a single phonecall. Sold within hours of being on horsemart. Costs from £35

New Rider - Good for advertising loan horses or cheap horses, but again gets lots of emails rather than phonecalls. Also a lot of people who think they can ride, but can't. Costs - Free

Horse Deals - not advertised with them yet

Adtrader - Good when advertising loan horse, never managed to sell a horse from an advert in adtrader though. Sold within a day of being in Farmers Guide. Costs Approx £10

Farmers Guide - Very good, and free too which is a bonus. Has to be the right sort of horse though, ie, hunter/cob type - no point advertising a GP dressage horse in there. Costs - Free

Arabian Lines - will let you know, have one advertised there at the moment (or will be within 72hrs anyway) Costs From £10 - £25 depending on ad

Local Tack Shops - always put ads up, but never sold anything from a tack shop ad. Had a few enquiries, but never led to anything

Pony Club Website - Great for advertising cheap allrounders, or loan horses. Never advertised anything for sale, but have had lots of responses when I have advertised loan horses on there. Costs - Approx £10

These are just my personal experiences though - others may find a completely different story

Aa you are in Dorset have you visited nfed.co.uk? (New Forest Equine Directory)
Covers Dorset, New Forest and Hampshire although there are ads from all over the country on it.

I never pay for advertising. I go for word of mouth only. Pass on details to every horsey person you know, as people are more likely to buy via word of mouth as they get to hear about any bad points too...
