Interesting how careful IPC are to ensure we're all responsible regarding copyright etc, yet IPC staff choose to use Google image searches to 'borrow' pictures for clients advertising in their magazine. I wonder how much else of the magazine is put together with such dilligence?

Take a look at page 148 - do you see an ad for a company promoting their arena footing? Nice picture of an arena that you'd asume they helped renovate?

That picture is of an arena in BC, Canada. My arena, that I renovated without any contractor (more pics at www.fieldstone-equestrian.ca if you'd care to look). I spoke to IPC this morning, and they admitted that they'd borrowed the image from a web search, and hadn't thought to check it's copyright or validity Apparently the image was 'difficult to determine where it came from', until I pointed out that the address bar in the web browser made it fairly clear.

Don't always believe what you read in the press......

Thanks.

Sure, why not, it's only a 10hr flight. Come over on holiday and see if your horse would be comfy

We moved from Worcestershire 2yrs ago to renovate and run the business here. Gloucs is a lovely part of the UK - I worked in Cheltenham for a long time. Bit too damp there for my liking right now

Is it IPC or the company that are advertising the arenas that used your picture?

IPC selected the photo, then ran the ad (several times)without the client saying whether it was appropriate or not. They're as culpable as each other, IMO.

It is a bit damp here at the mo - I spent 6 hours stuck on the (closed) M50 the other day as a river ran over it...

Oh I see, I didn't know how it works, whether IPC just print what they are given by the companies, like For Sale ads, or if IPC work on/change the ads.
I hope you can sort something out with them, how does copyright work, do they have to give you compensation?

They need to gain permission from the owner of the photo/artwork or whatever before they're allowed to use it. That in itself isn't a big deal for me, it's the dishonesty using my arena as an example of work carried out by the advertiser that is worse.

If I want to follow up on it, then yes, in theory compensation could be due.
