Help I have someone coming to pull my yearling,s mane so she can be plaited for a couple of shows. Is it easier to pull it in field condition or would it be better washed. I want it to be as painless as possible. Do I just give it a good comb through the day before or wash it?

i always find it easier to pull an unwashed mane as you have more grip. just make sure its combed through and there are no knots x

Definately a dirty mane is easier to pull. If you are worried it might hurt miz equel amounts of Oil of Cloves and rubbing alcohol together and apply to the roots of th emane - it numbs it for a while.

I use a dog comb with a handle for pulling as it doesn't tear the hair like some combs. I take a couple of weeks to completely pull the mane.

dirty/unwashed mane is better... a washed mane is slippy and harder to handle when pulling.

if he has a thin/fine mane you might get away with a solo comb... but you will still need to pull in order to thin the mane. ;)

dont expect to do it all in one go... little and often. ;)

xx

I have never pulled my 13yr olds mane, I back comb it and then cut it. I think it works just as well without horrible feeling of pulling you're horses mane out!
