cleaning a NS bit

I lent someone my brand new shiny NS bit and went to collect it last night and it is green in places. It is one of those gold coloured bits and I need to get it clean. Any ideas??

warm water and soap.. but mine never goes shiny now.. since its been used!

thanks Lou, I did just try that, but still green in places - so annoyed as don't mind if it isn't shiny - it't the green that's the porblem xx

Yeh.. mines gone a funy brownygreen colour.. i was gutted! Suppose you could try say coke or summit lemonjuicE?

Diamond Paste will make it shiny and not green

toothpaste with a cloth makes them go shiny again!

I have done that too lol, also with my Sprenger bit! Glad I'm not the only one who dishwashes their bits. I have to convince OH it's ok.

I dont have a dishwasher.. unless you mean myself lol!!!

But I just tried the vinegar.. initially i went 'eek its gone pink!!!' cleaned it all up and its gold again and very shiny.

I'm quite relieved I'm not alone to be honest! Also occasionally do my stirrups and treads, come up lovely. (Do it while OH is out as dishwater is a new luxury!!) Have put my wintec girth and "leathers" through the washing machine before now too. Just a shame the saddle doesn't fit... Am yet to come up with a labour-saving method for the leather stuff.

cover it in HP sauce, leave it for 1/2 an hour and then chuck it in the dishwasher.
