I've just bought a patent bridle and am unsure whether I can clean it like a standard leather bridle (i.e. use saddle soap and leather balsam)? Also, any tips on keeping the patent bits shiny would be much appreciated.

Patent leather cleaner? The sort my mum did my shoes with when I was a kid ;)
It cleans and shines all in one and they sell it in a bottle with a sponge end to polish on. I'm sure places like Clarkes shoe shop would stock it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.
There is a market opportunity here: remove Clarke's label and replace with horsey label (e.g. Equishine) add about 25% to the price and voila.
