I have one of those lovely wool, gold striped exercise sheets. Problem is its filthy as its been stuck in a hay rack for ages. Any idea how to clean it? I'm guessing the washer may not be suitable.
Before you even think about washing it (IME, it's always the bindings that shrink far more than the rug itself) give it a great shake and then brush hard every inch of it, use a good stiff dandy brush and that should bring it up well if you work hard enough at it. This is all we were ever allowed to do when the day rugs were very thick heavy wool, no washing machines in those days! If you still feel it needs a clean then I'd get it dry cleaned to be on the safe side - but they won't want it if it's still covered in hay and cobwebs!
Use a wool wash and pure soap flakes/liquid soap, done this for years also do sheepskin rugs, saddle pads etc, you need to dry them carefully but no disasters
