Cleaning Geldings best bits

Just wondered what everyone else uses to clean sheaths? I usually use some diluted hibi scrub in some warm water and rinse well. However, I did this a few weeks ago and Ralphs really dirty again.......

Any ideas

I don't, every now and again when it's hanging out it'll get a quick squirt of baby oil. I wouldn't use hibiscrub though.
 
I use a dab of hibi scrub, just to get the grease off. I use it everyday at work to wash my hands, with no ill effects, I would not use it if I thought I would cause a problem and ensure that it is rinsed with clean warm water.

I just need to get the grease out of the sheath, he is not suffering from the scabby bits

I dont. My boys never put theirs "out" very often so Id never get a chance to anyway!

The one time I decided to start cleaning it, I bought proper sheath cleanser and my boy had an allergic reaction and it swelled right up! Never again! They dont have it cleaned in the wild therefore I just leave it.

Ditto. A good pick every now and again is all they need really.
 
In the summer I put the hose up the sheath - my two love having this done on a hot day and then put my hand to rub off any bits and then another rinse.

In the winter I use warm water and do the same. Chancer often has his willy out and actually very much enjoys having me gently rub any bits off.

I will on the very odd occasion use natural sheath cleaner - maybe once or twice a year on Chancer as he is a grubby beastie.

Cairo is ok with just water.
 
Help! My gelding has been battling a long term sheath infection. The first vet I had visit suggested I syringe it clean with vetadine for two weeks. This didn't really help so when I phoned the vet again he suggested to try doing the same with hibatane for two weeks - which I did. This still didn't seem to help and when I phoned the vet to tell him there was a pus discharge, the vet said I would just have to learn to live with it! Well I've had a second vet out recently who took a swab which revealed three bacteria. She put the gelding on antibiotic powder for one month and once again we've tried to keep it clean. But for one month of antibiotics and $500 vet bill, there is no improvement. It's driving me crazy. Can anybody help with suggestions please. I've owned this horse since he was a yearling (he is now 19) and we've competed all around the country (NZ) together. I really want relief (and a cure) for him.
 
Hibi scrub is actually quite strong. I tend to use baby oil and warm water. I spray baby oil "up there" and leave it a day. Then I get "mucky", I get some warm water and go for it!!!!
