Just wondered what everyone uses to clean out grooming kits and the brushes? and how often you do it?
I've always used just water and a good scrub in the past but I'd like to actually give them all a good clean. I've seen people use their horse's shampoo but I wondered what everyone else uses and whether there is anything specific for it to buy? How often do you clean your horses brushes?
Thanks

We don't buy anything special but tend to use cheap TeaTree shampoo (human) from the supermarket. Don't really have a routine time for cleaning them. though my daughter loves to buy new ones on a regular basis ;)

Pop all non wooden brushes in the washing machine ( In a pillowcase ) if it's good enough for Carl Hester it's good enough for me ;) I do work horses brushes once a week and mine once a month ;) can't clean a horse with dirty brushes :p

I'm with your daughter on this---good excuse to get a horse shopping fix that isn't too expensive! Bless her! :)

I did that and broke my washing machines agitator. Only suitable for front loaders!

I use a little hair shampoo and some Dettol in hand hot water, then rinse in cold.

I usually wash mine weekly during show season (body brush daily) and not so often in the winter when she's hairy and naked

I put mine in a bucket of hot water with a good squirt of flash , it kills the grease and brings the up a treat I just leave an hour or so and rinse well. The more expensive brushes with wooden backs and hair bristles I wash with baby shampoo.

Chuck them in a bucket full of water, splash a bit of disinfectant, scrub, rinse, leave to dry.
Don't clean mine as often as I should and I seem to aquire many different brushes over a year :)

A shallow bowl of warm water with washing soda to get rid of the grease then rinse really well or rewash in shampoo stand the brushes in the warm water and soda for a few minutes to get rid of the grease bristles down then wash without getting the wood handles soaked plastic ones just wash well
