cleaning the brass buckles on headcollars..

Hi, I'm havig trouble getting little green marks off my Jeffries leather headcollar- it's new but has been in storage for so long it's started to speckle.
I've been going mad at it with a toothbrush but don't want to get water on the leather so I'm being very careful.
What's the best stuff to use to get the green specks off the brass and really give it a shine?

In the days when a brass brow band was very 'de rigeur' (hope that right) I always used Brasso (still do on stirrup irons when I can be bothered).

ooooo post crash - I'm cleaning up my bridle which has brass fixings - now hunting for brasso! haa haa

I use that stuff in a tin that is like a cotton wool/wadding stuff you just rub it on and rub up with a duster. Think its Duraglit or Brasso, cos its not a liquid you dont make a mess. Its great
