My turnout rugs are still grubby from last year!

Am i right in thinking if i just hose and scrub them inside and out they wont need reproofing? Would i use plain water or detergent?

If i put them through my washing machine (rugs are only 4ft) im guessing they would definitely need reproofing?

Im going to send the favourite most used ones to a professional but wonder if i can save money with the rest

None leaked at all last year

Personally with rugs of that size I'd say get a nikiwax machine proofer and chuck them in the washing machine. Whatever you do DONT use detergent, and cover your buckles with something that'll stop them breaking the window (have made that mistake before and had to have a whole new door on our machine.

This year, as I seem to have spent far too much having sweetitch rugs repaired, I have opted to clean off my turnouts using a hosepipe and broom. They look much better and have cost nothing.
