Cleaning Velvet Hats- Help Please!

How do I get a dried on horse slobber stain off a velvet hat? It's my 'posh' hat which doesn't see the light of day very often so the velvet is still very dark and plush.... I don't want to end up with a flat/ faded patch

Try steam from a wallpaper stripper or kettle. Be careful though not to scald yourself.

Do I steam to soften the slobber then wipe it off?

yes...then brush it gently with a soft brush following the flow of the velvet.

A goat hair face brush or very soft face brush is good for brushing the velvet.

Failing that a soft shoe brush is good too.

Not sure how good they are but you can get sprays specifically for cleaning velvet hats. Robinsons used to do it, think they still do although I'm not 100%.
