Clear Round (and also NW question)

Can someone explain Clear Round to me? I have never done any show jumping at all, just jumped at home for fun but today Han decided she wanted to be a show jumper, and wouldn't mind taking Grace too as she just loves it and it is what she was bred to do

So, would I be deeply frowned upon for jumping in a dressage saddle?

What is the dress code?

People in the NW... are there any clear round courses you can hire or places that run them?
 
I only know about unaffiliated clear round at local shows and usually you just do a round of jumps and if you go clear you get a rosette! Normally you can just turn up and go as often as you like just paying for each round. I don't think (or know) if they're run as competitions with winners/placings etc. If it's a local show normal show gear (blue jacket, beige/white jods) no need to plait up. I think it's pretty much the same under BSJA. I think that some BSJA comps run clear rounds as unaffiliated first classes, but someone else will probably be able to give you more details/info. In the NW I'd have thought Myerscough or Osbaldeston would have some.
 
most bsja centres hold clear ronds either as a first class or throughout the day in another aena. unaffilted/local shows also hold clear rounds usually, sometimes called a minimus?

clear round are usually pretty cheap to enter, and i think at unaff level can be jumped a few times by the same combination. normal showjumping wear; jacket/shirt/cream jods/boots/hat...and there havent been (that i have noticed) any particular rules about addles.

sometimes the clear rounds are set at one height for everyone-usually only about 80cm...but sometimes you can change the course for you and your horse, from 50cm to 1m20! depends on the venue...

If you are comfortable to jump in a dressage saddle I don't see why you shouldn't.

I think clear round jumping is usually pretty low key so no dress code really - the place near us does it in an evening and it is usualy only up to about 3'6".

I have alway found the warm up to be very different to dressage - horses flying in all directions, getting up you back end, etc (although I suppose that isn't much different to some places

) so you might be better to just hire a course of jumps before or after an event.
 
If you can cope jumping in a dressage saddle then no-one will turn you away but it is exceptionally uncomfortable in my experience!
Clear round is normally a case of getting your name on the board if they have one and then going in when it's your turn. Sometimes there is no running order and it's just a case of going in when the ring is free. You normally follow a set course and get a rosette if you go clear.

I think the best thing for what you are wanting to do are places like Longton RC Show, Church Farm show, Charity Farm show, they have the clear Round set up for the start of the day and you just go along and pop round it, getting a rosette if clear. You can see their schedule on the web, tells you dates and times etc.. I have been round in a dressage saddle too! (not ideal, but ok!)

She is not an easy horse to fit a saddle to and has had issues in the past...

But, I always jump in my dressage saddles. OK, not huge jumps but can do to the top of the polyjump blocks in them

I am mad busy the next few weeks with the Regionals and Futurity (must go and pick up the bog pony) but if you hear of any more, would you let me know as I would really like to take the girls!
 
Your best bet would be Barton because they do unaff jumping including a clear round (and a mini clear round) every Wednesday evening and you just roll up and go.
Osbaldeston hire out their arena with a full course of SJ's already set up regularly, but you would need to them up first.
 
Thanks SAMgirl... It would have to be a weekend really as I don't finish work til 7pm most nights so I would think the CR would be one of the first classes on a Wed night?
