I have a young pony that I am training up and want to start showing. A friend told me that in clear round jumping you could just go in and pop whatever jumps you wanted which would mean we could just get her used to the atmosphere of the jumping ring however I have since been told that you have to follow the set order or else are sent out?
Please help!

There will be a course numbered but you don't have to jump all of them. Neither will they let you hang around for ages popping over a few fences though. Speak to whoever is on the ring, it will be different at every show how long they are prepared to let you stay in there

I took my thoroughbred to do a clear round a little while ago just to try and get her out and not stress her too much. I told the lady on the ring that we wouldn't be doing any of the fillers or the double and she let me go round the other 5 jumps twice

Mine isn't young but gets very stressed so the aim was for her to realise that it was not stressful!

depends on the show, speak to who is on the ring, if you want to have a play and miss a few out make sure you go early if they have classes later in that ring or go over when its nice and quiet

She seems to enjoy the jumping but thats at home in a place she's used to so we'll see how she goes at a show ground fingers crossed! Thanks so much you've been a really great help.

I should say that I was at an unaffiliated show on grass with a separate clear round ring so they weren't wanting to get a class going

best way to do it lizzie, everyone has been there!

just if its indoors can get a bit frustrating if someone at 10.30 is trying to have a play and they need to get started with classes. Said person should get up earlier IMO as CR will often have started at 9am and noone will have been there!

HMS pick a day with nice weather go to a nice local show with lots of space and let her look at everything and have a nice day!
