In the summer I would like to try some clear round jumping and there is somewhere I can go that for the first hour the jumps are really small crosspoles (less than 1ft). Now i'm guessing that there will be lots of little ponies and little people there, so do you think people will laugh when I turn up on George

or think I'm taking the p*ss

I know he can just step over them, but I am so nervous jumping but i really want to try, what do you think?

Harold Park have a small minimus, but that is at their comps. They have a clear round class beforehand.
Norton Heath, if you get there for 5pm, allow you to put the height at what you want.
I think its a great idea! No point pushing if you are not confident.
Have you thought about having some jumping lessons?

Of course they won't laugh. They should be understanding and knowledgeable enough to realise that you are a novice and if they don't then does their opinion really matter that much?!
Lats summer when I broke my girlie in I took her to several x-poles and 1ft classes and no-one seemed to really notice a great big ID thundering around

I'm sure you will be fine

. Maybe you can find somewhere that has clear round evenings? A lot of them are organised for people like you who just want to have fun and build confidence.

Good luck and enjoy your beautiful horsey!

yes Norton Heath was where I was thinking of going, I don't have transport and can just about hack there. Yes we are having jumping lessons, and managed 2ft a couple of weeks ago, but after last weeks fall i'm back where I started!

Go for it!!

I took my lady a whole hour and a halfs drive down the M5 to go to a place that did 1 foot 6 clear round (everywhere near me starts at 2 foot!), and didn't regret it at all! There WERE lots of kids on ponies but there were also a few adults just like me, and my 15'3" was not the biggest horse there.

Go on - go for it - you will have a lovely time I guarantee, and it will do loads for your confidence.

Well I can tell you no one was laughing at me and my Mum last night!

GO FOR IT! Who cares what people think anyway, but I can honestly say they won’t be laughing at you, they will be willing you on.

When I took Bodey to bottom hole I actually made friends with a 12 year old kid (I’m 27) and we were cheering each other on, it was great fun!

I know lots of people (including me) who have taken there horses into little classes to build there confidence and no-one laughs. As long as you enjoy yourself (in a scared out of your wits sort of way) that's all that matters.
Sorry I'm the opposite side of the country to you, otherwise I could recommend somewhere.

I took my 18hh into the 2ft clear round just before christmas. I was the only horse, the rest were ponies but when we went clear I thought we had just won the olympics. It does you good just to go and jump a course with everybody watching. Don't worry about what anybody thinks, just go for it and good luck and enjoy!

one of our local places actually runs shows designed for people like you (and me ) mainy it is kids on ponies but you can guarantee there will be one or two adults on horses there as well. as others have said no one will laugh at you and everyone has to start somewhere!

Round here there are always adults on massive horses doing the tiny clear rounds, often it's their first outing together or the rider is nervous or the horse has been out of action. No-one seems to look twice, it's normal!

Please don't worry, everyone has to start somewhere. I don't think anyone would laugh, and if they did, well, laugh back. I ride a 16.2hh mare, who jumps 1.2mtrs regularly, and I always jump the clear round competition before anything else, just to warm up my horse on a proper course.
Good on you for wanting to have a go.

Round here we have separate junior & senior comps so you don't have to worry about being the only adult going round the little jumps! I took my horse round the tiny 1'6" round for his first show - all the fillers etc were at the side of the jumps so he saw them all but they weren't too scary. Good experience for him. Noone laughs!

Am thinking of taking my oldie horse out for a couple of tiny rounds this year. He loves jumping but can't jump very big any more.

our yard do a clear round (we have one coming up on monday) starting at tiny cross poles, and its the most popular class by far! Most people come, go round that height then f they are brave enough try a little bigger later on.

Kai went round her first ever course of jumps at a clear round. They were tiny, but now one laughed, we got a big cheer when we got out!! Go and have a fun round and don't worry what people think.

go for it girl!! s*d everyone else just have a laugh and go for it, everyones out to have fun and it is open to everyone, clear round jumping is generally for those who are a bit nervous both horse and rider so just go for it:)
have fun:)

My little girlie (well 16hh) will be going to one of these clear round things to start off with just for the experience. She would have gone to one last year, was just training though not a show, but she hurt her leg just before hand. Good luck, we all have to start somewhere

Think you should go for it, I took my pony out Easter Monday, my friend jumped her in the class, as I had an operation on my ankle 10 days before & wasn't meant to ride, however, couldn't resist & took her in trot round the clear round which my 2 friends set for me at about 1', no one even took any notice at all. Then a lady appeared on a massive horse, my pony is 14hh, & said "please don't put them up, I've been waiting to have a go & they were too high" no one laughed at her either, & we all clapped when she went clear. I have lessons with an international sj, he never takes the p at the height, he is just happy to teach me at whatever level I am happy with. Go for it & have fun. Good luck.

I would love to have the confidence to jump 1ft (my sig is my daughter, not me). Go for it, you'll be jumping 3ft in no time.
