Clent hills hacking

That route is quite hard going - lots of steep hills! My horse has had enough by the end of it, but he's not super fit.

Ah great thank you for your reply. Is it a nice route? Any places for a canter? Next to no off road hacking round us so we're boxing out for an explore!

It's mostly quite stony, it's more of an amble round and take in the views sort of ride. Quite good for fitness though due to the aforementioned hills!
Try Kinver for more canter tracks, drop me a pm if you want to meet up and I can show you some good routes - I hack round there most days and it's always nice to have some company!

Aw thank you - that's a really kind offe. Let me have a chat with the friend Im riding with & see what she thinks, would we be able to do a couple of hours off road from kinver - is that Stourbridge?

Really useful webby. Bit further afield than Clent but the rides are well marked and all include designatrd parking for lorries/trailers. Friend and I did the 16 mile Rushbury route a couple of years ago, which incorporates riding along Wenlock Edge and it was fab. All sorts of terrain and a good few canter spots. It's all free as well, you just turn up, tack up and go.

I would think so yes, I have a route in mind that would probably take 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours, obviously not as many miles as Clent has to offer, but far nicer footing! Yes it's just out of Stourbridge towards Kidderminster.

Wow - that brings back memories. My friend went on the buy the grey horse in the photo having fallen in love with it whilst it was at the local riding school (who are in the photo). It was looking a bit fatter last time I saw it luckily!

I'm struggling a wee bit to get my bearings because its been a while but they appear to be taking you straight up to the 4 stones (At the end of the hard track, keep going half left uphill - don’t turn left through gate) whereas if you DO go left through the gate and follow the track for maybe 2 miles it winds you around the bottom of the hill and then you can have a jolly good gallop to the top. Bonus points for taking out walkers.

The bit opposite the car park has a couple of good gallops as well. This route looks like it is bringing you onto them at the end so there will be some good runs before you get back to the car park.

There are a lot of tracks on Clent that I just use to vanish down exploring. I'm sure some of them aren't bridlepaths, but if I got lost I'd either head up hill or ask for directions to the visitors centre. That yard in the picture train their Haffys for endurance riding so I know they link some pretty long, steep, energetic routes together.

Have fun - I'm quite jealous actually. I now live in the South East where it seems every bridlepath ends in a main road and its virtually impossible to find good long uphill gallops - so instead I have to sit the bucks of my completely over excited youngster in a field full of scary cows!
