Sunday 7th September was CB Awareness Day, which used to be called Ride A Bay Day. We could not ride on the day as we had a lunch party planned for friends from the USA.

However, we do have some photos from France and USA. ALL with the exception of Mr. Big Stuff are pure bred Cleveland Bays.

Love your Cleveland Bay.

Thanks for posting this photos. Just came home from a trail ride with both FH Seashell (seen above) and purebred Genevieve who is in foal. Very muddy and clay "slicker than snot", so we went slowly and practiced walking through puddles. French CBs. Sounds like a wonderful holiday destination.

I'm always reminded of the William Morris quote "Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful" with CBs. I think they cover both criteria!
Thank-you for the photos, and for your work preserving the breed.

Yes, I agree with both of you. Rosie is in foal again to Arthur but this will be her last. She is such a super riding horse, she is going to be MY girl and we will grow old together.

Our Shagya Arabs are much easier to school on and I love them. Clevelands take time but there is nothing so wonderful as feeling that power behind the saddle coupled with perfect manners WHEN you get it right.

Just to let CB Fans know that CBHS have closed their Public Forum.

In May 2014, CBHS suddenly changed its rules so that members had to identify them selves by name or not use the members forum. Since then I have complained four times to the society, when I was identified by name by a male member of the society.

Some unsettling experiences caused me to remove my profile from H&H and seek help from the National Stalkers Forum.

I stopped using the member's forum, although I am both an important breeder and member of CBHS. The male member's offensive remarks then extended to a female member of the Council in North America.

When I refused to identify myself by name the Forum Administrator of CBHS called me Purile on the forum.

Over the past two days this has escalated and at the request of the Male member of the society one female member has in effect been shut out of what should be a democratic process.

I have been in communication with the National Stalkers Helpline and this is their advice on the use of Forums.

Social Networking
Stay as anonymous as possible: do not reveal details about your address, phone number, routine or place of work on your social networking profile or to anyone who asks online.
You may want to set up a new account. If you decide to do this we recommend following the suggestions above and only sharing the new account with your close, trusted friends. Ask that they also change their privacy settings so that you are protected. See recommended Facebook privacy settings Facebook Privacy Settings
Change your passwords regularly.
Review your privacy settings to make sure that only your friends can see your profile details and pictures.
Don’t let others tag you in photos remove all tags from photos.
Do not allow people that you’ve never met or don’t know access to your profile or add them to your contact lists.
Never share your passwords with anyone. If you do, even accidentally, change them as soon as possible.
Online Dating, Message Boards and Forums
Do not reveal any identifiable personal information about yourself, such as where you work, where you live, your phone number or second name.
Choose a nickname that doesn’t reveal anything about your gender or your real name.
If you decide to meet someone you know online, always meet in a public place and ask a friend to come with you at first. If no one can accompany you, leave details of your plans with a friend and agree to contact them at a certain time.
Mobile phones and some digital cameras automatically put data that shows where the picture was taken. This data is easy to find. So, do not send a photo unless you have turned off your geo location tags feature and so you know it is safe. Don’t’ send old photos if you are unsure.
Computers
Install anti-virus and anti spyware software and always make sure it’s up to date.
If you suspect your computer has been bugged or that someone has placed tracking software or malware on it, ask a trusted professional to look at it and remove any suspicious software. . If you suspect that someone is able to access or read what you are doing on your computer it may have spyware. Go to a safe computer such as a friend or library and immediately change the passwords on your key online accounts such email, social networking, bank/paypal accounts. Don’t access those accounts with your computer until it is clean and safe. You can clean your computer by buying an anti-spyware software.
Put your laptop away when you leave it at home. If it is on display, it is more likely to be stolen or tampered with if someone enters your home. Secure your computer by logging off when you leave the room or go out. Then no one can access it without a passwords. (Go to start menu and then on the lower right is log off)
Email
You dont necessarily have to close your email account if your stalker gets hold of the address. Instead, you can create another account and give that address only to trusted friends and family.
Also consider creating different email accounts to use with financial services and retail.
Consider creating a folder just for emails from your stalker. You can set up a filter so that emails from a particular sender go straight to a certain file and don’t appear in your inbox. This means you will still have the emails as evidence but won’t have to see them when you open your mail.
Stalkers can know your email address and password or can guess it. If they can read your email or access your social network they can find out a lot of information or contact people and cause a lot of damage or distress. It is important to get a new clean email address for your online accounts and secure passwords. Many online email providers now offer an option to manage multiple accounts so it doesn’t have to be difficult.
Set-up multiple email accounts 1) old email so that you don’t lose contact with existing friends, family or colleagues. 2) for trusted contacts 3) for online accounts such as social networks 4) financial accounts and online shopping. If you have multiple accounts and the stalker takes over one then the others may still be secure and you don’t lose everything.
Mobile phone safety
Set your mobile so you have to use a PIN to unlock your phone. Try to set it to lock after one or two minutes without use. Use random numbers instead of birthdates or other guessable formats.
Don’t use apps that tell you where friends are, or ‘check you in’. If you suspect someone has put a tracking app on your mobile go through your apps and remove any suspicious ones.
Use Mobile security software, look for one that offers “white lists” that is a feature that means only those people in your address book can contact you. So, if your stalker calls or sends abuse texts those won’t get through – even if they change their number.
Turn off geolocation services in camera apps and your mobile settings. Turn it on only when you need to use it. It will also increase your battery life.
Get a cheap mobile to make sensitive calls or when you are going to a sensitive location.
Cover Your Tracks
As you surf the internet your internet browser will save certain information, such as the websites you have visited and images or publications you have downloaded. If you do not want people who may have access to your computer to know which websites you have been viewing you should use a safe computer such as a friend’s, library or work.
There are different methods to hide your tracks and delete your history for each internet browser. Click the link below for information about how to delete your history from some of the most popular browsers.
It should be noted that if you are using someone else’s computer they may notice if you delete the computer history and cookies.

So sorry to hear this Rollin. Good job you do your work for the Cleveland Bay as a horse not for the red tape and officious individuals of societies. I too have had unfortunate stalk-y type experiences on the internet and it can be a very creepy and unsettling/ irritating problem, especially as the internet is permanent. Best of luck and try not to take the weaknesses of others as reflective of yourself.

Nearly all the stalkers helpline stuff quoted is irrelevant to the situation. The relevant bit is about names. But if you have a website which gives detailed information about your location, name, two breeds of horses, then there is little point in trying to keep your identity secret. Google is a wonderful thing, but if you really want your id secret remove your breeds from your H&H posts.
There are many wonderful friendly, hardworking and helpful people on the CBHS council.

The office of the Information Commissioner is not in agreement with you.

If a Forum gives members a right to privacy this should be respected. It is the job of the Forum Administrator to uphold the rules, which include removal of offensive remarks.

It is incredible that a Trustee of a society which enjoys Royal Patronage can call a member Purile on a Public Forum.

How does a society which exists to preserve a critically endangered breed, issues fewer than 30 pure bred passports a year, justify spending £5,000 a year of an office which is mostly unmanned? Who pays for the office rental? The members.

You have no idea what is relevant. I have not chosen to copy to other members my principal letter of complaint to CBHS and the reasons.

You will also have noticed I do not give my horses stud book names in my posts.

I think you misunderstand me. You do not need studbook names to give out your identity. Just remove the "Cleveland Bays and Shagya Arabs" from the bottom of your posts to preserve anonymity. Alternatively google it and see what comes up.

WTF !!!! What the heck has this got to with the thread?????? I can see how airing your personal gripes on a public forum really helps the breed?!. And what a random post in the middle of a what was some lovely public breed promotion ...what a shame to taint and ruin that.

Totally agree. What the topic has to do with the CB awareness day is very much beyond me other than IMO causing issues on a very public forum.

WTF !!!! What the heck has this got to with the thread?????? I can see how airing your personal gripes on a public forum really helps the breed?!. And what a random post in the middle of a what was some lovely public breed promotion ...what a shame to taint and ruin that.

Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to place the stalker info on a separate forum, yet the comments on how folks are sometimes treated by others on the CB member and open (now closed) forum is accurate. I hope this doesn't happen on other breed and sport horse forums.

GG

And interesting that we have two new folk on this thread who have not previously shown their enthusiasm for Britain's oldest and rarest breed of horse.

Quiet appropriate for me to post here. I have promoted the Cleveland Bay over many years on this forum. I can hardly steal my own thread. We sponsored the first ever CB Awareness Day, as it has now been renamed.

Had CBHS not closed its Open Forum I would not be posting here.

Hi Rollin, you might be interested to know that there are two CB 2014 colts for sale on Done Deal at the moment, they are in Waterford. hadn't realised that there were any pure breds being bred in Ireland.

Cool. Will you give the names of the colts? We have so many colts in the SPARKS F and almost G category. Would be wonderful if we can find some that are SPARKS C and D. I haven't seen a B in years and certainly never an A....unless it was a graded mare.

Rolin,

Its great news isn't it that are new people coming to the breed and wanting to support it. If we can get new people interested in the breed rather than turning them off through negative posting about the society, who are then in turn willing to support the breed and showcase it, then it can only be of benefit. Please note though that just because I have not posted on Horse and Hound forum, it does not mean that I do not show my enthusiasm for the breed.... I do very regularly through other mediums and ways.

texasscbs these colts are by Cholderton Issus, a really lovely stallion (by C.Cacus). Stud name is Rosemeadow. I'm guessing that the colts are probably Sparks D. But if you are interested you could look up the mares on the Sparks sheets to check.

Completely agree with you, and I have posted frequently in the past. In the past the Society was not always the most welcoming but over the years that has changed a lot - we need to keep it that way and not have bickering. I'm sorry if someone hounded you on the CB forum.

Rollin
What started out to be a lovely post which would have only been good for the Cleveland bay has been dragged down to the depths, WHAT A SHAME
For all the people reading this who are not involved with Cleveland Bays or CBHS for the large part,we all get on
The forum was closed true, why? because some people were using it not in the way it was intended. Making comments that were rude and personnal and hiding behind their user name this is why you have to identify yourself now to make sure this does not happen anymore.
I believe the CBHS have done everything possible to make their forum welcoming to all and personally i have no problem finishing my posts with my first name
I dont believe forums are the place for private crusades nor the AGMs for that matter
