Hello!
just wondering what showing classes Cleveland Bays fit into, whether they are mountain & moorland, cobs or foreign breeds??
thank you :)

None of the above! CB's are not M&M ponies, cobs or foreign!

I would imagine that hunter classes would be most suitable.

This exactly!

Most end up as hunters and if they have it then you can do the rare breeds class.

M&M classes are for the British native PONIES!
They are very definitely not foriegn
and the vast majority will not have enough bone or the correct type for the cob classes

Ridden hunter or sports horse - some classes have special sections for CB's if sponsored by the society. In hand hunter. Rare Breeds classes. Some major shows actually have CB specific classes. The Cleveland Bay Horse Society has a full list.

that was what i thought but there is very rarely a rare breeds class in any of our local shows :( this summer im looking to take my 3 yr old CB in-hand showing to get him used to the show atmosphere so will probably do the youngstock class and the fun classes... and maybe even rare breeds if they have one!
thank you for your help

Hunter classes are not in hand - defeats the point! OP - try Tack & Turnout too. Really good practice for standing in an atmosphere. Plus they tend to be the first class of the day when the ground is quieter.

Err no idea where you got that from. Plenty of inhand hunter classes, both at local level and higher

Most local shows have youngstock and best condition classes you could do those, I have a similar issue with ridden classes for Arabs at local shows there often is literally nothing we can do.

I have entered in-hand, hunter breeding class. In Scotland our Chapman type pure CB 15.2hh qualified for the Scottish Masters as a small show hunter and won the Royal Highland Society Perpetual Trophy as a Riding Club Horse. There is a breeder in Scotland who has won Hunter Championships with a yearling pure-bred. There are specific CB classes but you need to be a member of CBHS and if you apply for membership you need to be 'approved' by the CBHS Council. Next meeting is next week, so you may miss the boat for many CB Showing classes.

There are also Rare breed shows.

do they accept part-breds as my CB has a tiny bit of ISH in

i definitely will when he is at the right age to ride him at shows! :D

Why do people think hunter classes are ridden only?
There are plenty of inhand hunter classes at local level and at higher levels too.

Unless the horse is registered with the CB society as a partbred then you cannot do the partbred CB classes.
