Hi there, just wondering if there are any cleveland bay owners out there? I've just bought a part bred CB. She's a 2 yr old tri-coloured filly (her sire Edenvalley Outlaw is IDxTB and he's coloured). She's really pretty and very sweet natured. Already she is 15hh, we aim to show her next year and educate her correctly. Eventually I hope to ride her and enjoy riding club activities with her. I'm in no rush though!

Her prefix is 'Stainmore' and her Dam is Stainmore Summer Rose. Her CB pedigree is excellent but I can find less out about her Sire.

Does any else have a coloured part bred CB or maybe even a Stainmore one!

Not coloured or stainmore, but do have a wonderful cbxtb! She is utterly stunning and a total sweetheart. Fab at her showjumping, and loves it. A very sensitive mare, but happy to take the p occationally too. A gentle but 'no messing' approach is the way that works really well for her. She responds better to more of an old fashioned horsemanship way in handling and training her. Hope you have a wonderful time with your cbx. I think they have the most wonderful personalities. Such clever horses, you'll have the best time bringing her on! Cbs tend to be slow to mature so I'm sure she will keep suprising you for many years yet!
P.S. Just had a peek at Stainmore Summer Rose, what a stunner!
 
There are lots on here ... Baydale, Rollin, and of course SSM.

I have a gelding - agree totally with glosgirl except mine is dressage not jumping.
 
Rollin here. I have three pure bred mares - all 15.2hh-15.3hh two are out of Stainmore mares. The CB was a pack horse about 15hh in the 12th century not all are huge horses.


Barbara Martindale in Cumbria is Stainmore she may well know about your mares breeding. She has been breeding CB's for more than 30 years.

Lincoln University's CB stallion Prince (Lindon Principal) is out of Stainmore Scotch Rose who took best brood mare at the Royal some years ago - though you must excuse me if I'm wrong on that, as it was a while ago and it all begins to get a bit hazy if you don't have the paperwork in front of you!

Stainmore is the prefix of Barbara Martindale, who has helped us loads and Edenvalley is her husband Derek's , now sadly deceased's, prefix. If you wanted to find out more about the sire, she may be worth a contact. She may well be at the society's AGM and dinner on the 24th October at York.

A coloured will certainly brighten up the part breds showing line up. Who's going to be the first to try for a spotted CB part bred! Please, please ride her - they need to be shown to be good ridden horses as well as just rare breeds and in hand if they are ever going to grow in popularity, though it does seem to be happening slowly.
 
There are lots of us CB enthusiasts on here. The partbreds are making an impression in lots of places. Look for Spring Pascal and the Cleveland grey on the SCBC site. Also just discovered partbred Bruce Rock was Eventing at *** level until injured last year. Can you post some pictures - we'd love to see her.
 
Rollin, we're here, but quite often lurking and not posting. We have to welcome anyone who is prepared to promote the breed. Our thing, if I may call it that, is to get the CB out in ridden classes, not just pure/part breds, but riding horse, hunters etc. It is not enough to have them as in hands. On the other hand, it would be mortifying to have a grey (like Natterjack Toad) and a coloured take all the honours! What we need to do is have sufficient pure breds such that the classes can be split for pure and part breds, because they do have very different attributes and not always in favour of the pure- breds.
 
Well the stallion in the pic above has been backed and we hope will go to one of France's top dressage riders in a few weeks. Then we will see what he can do.

You are absolutely right we must get our CBs out in the show ring - hopefull both sides of the channel.
 
I don't care where in the world they are shown, ridden or in hand or whatever, as long as they are produced and shown as something other than a "rare breed" with their only function being to reproduce. They are a solid all rounder who deserve a wider audience, but there appears very few of us trying to access this. I am totally intrigued by a coloured part bred CB. But I am also concerned that if there are not enough pure breds put forward for separate classes, we will have classes, especially ridden, dominated by greys, coloured and whatever, which may be lovely horses, as Toad is, but we do need to promote the pures. They are just as good, but have a different action which needs to be acknowledged.

We have a Cleveland Bay x TB he is a big boy 17h.2, such a lovely chap. I used to ride him but my daughter came back into riding after a 10 year break so has taken him over, he looks after her and they have won a Hunter trial and a dressage competition. A fantastic breed and so handsome. Good luck with yours.

I bought our filly from Barbara Martindale and I've researched her blood lines on the internet. It's nice to hear from other people with the same breed.

I'll keep you all posted of our progress!

Can I just ask if anyone knows anything about a CB mare called "Marta Hari"? One of ours has this in her breeding, but can't find much info on her

Me Me Me! As you know!

I own a purebred Gelding by Oakenbank Grenadier and once he is backed I plan to get him out there and do a bit of everything, after all he finds in-hand showing rather boring!!

He's a funny character an although really laid back about most things he never ceases to amaze me...

If I had enough money I'd have a whole yard of them! love them!
