Clever ideas to extend v check breastplate

I bought a v check breastplate at the weekend and annoyingly it's about 3" short on both sides where it attaches to the D rings. It was second hand so no chances of returning it. This morning I used baler twine (very classy) and looped it through the D rings and then clipped it to that. Can anyone think of a way to extend it in a smarter and cheap way?

Two flash noseband attachments? Thinner bottom strap I mean...slightly more classy than bailer twine...

Elastic ? Or a piece of nylon webbing. ( like small bit cut off a cheap dog lead) leave added end onto the saddle?

Yes that could work if I punched more holes and chopped off some of the excess length! Should be thin enough leather to clip the breastplate clips on.

That could work too highland, have lots of spare dog leads hanging about .

Spur straps? I had a hunter breastplate martingale (think that's what it was called) and lost the leather straps to attach it to the Ds, so used my spur straps

I thought that too, in fact was frantically going through my stuff this morning looking for some. Did wonder if they would be strong enough but I guess I could double up.
