That's exactly why I bought mine!

Plus I am extremely patriotic - became even more so when I lived in the US. They had the Stars and Stripes everywhere, so I had the Union Flag everywhere!! Rugby top, Toggi top, front number plate (in KY you only have a rear licence plate), key fob, hat, gloves, scarf and various other items. NOT all worn at once I hasten to add!!

So pardon me for having pride in my roots!!

re: "Kerilli I want your goat, I have £2.37 and some belgian waffles would that be enough to seal the purchase?! "

how dare you! i've never been so insulted in my life! he's worth 6 figures and is a dead cert for London 2012, my trainer said so!
we have been getting percentages of 90% in Germany, i'll have you know. The judges take one look at us and start ROFL saying "Nein, dass ist kaum zu glauben, Nein, Nein".
we don't do quite so well over here, i have no idea why, but everyone knows the GB judges are rubbish and you have to compete on the continent to get noticed...

Because they havent worked there asses off and spent thousands, to be intitled to wear the GB flag or jackets.

Rubbish. Who says people don't work their asses off? Maybe they just don't have the time with a full time job and a mortgage to pay? Maybe they haven't had the support from parents, maybe they can't afford it.

Tell me Katy, when you were riding for your country, who paid all the bills? Did you work full time to pay for it?

To ride for your country is a big achievement, its great, but there's a lot more than just talent and hard work involved.

Like I said, all the grassroots riders are involved in making the top levels work, thats where the money comes from. Most people know they'll never be lucky enough to ride for their country - but if they want to wear a GB jacket, then why shouldn't they? Its not like it says they do compete for England, just that they support it - like football shirts.

Thank you Spiral - you just saved me typing out an almost identical response.

There are plenty of young riders in this country, with talent to die for, but they will never ride for their country because they don't have the backing of knowledgable, horsey parents who will pay out for top class rides, or have the connections to gain access to a good horse.

Talent matters, of course it does, but in the horse world, it's rarely enough on it's own, sadly.
