I am going to be learning to clicker train my horse over the next few months with the help of a trainer.
This is all quite new to me as a way of training horses on the ground although after having a look around on the internet, it looks like it could really work well.
I wondered if anyone on here has clicker trained their horses? what you think of it as a training method and if you have tried it, did you find it effective?

I used clicker training to teach my nervous horse to pick up his feet and stand still for mounting. It worked brilliantly, and now when ever he sees the clicker he tries everything he knows to see if its the right answer for a click/treat! x

I have used clicker very successfully for mounting issues. He also has a few wee tricks that he can do. Its a handy thing to be able to use with a horse - they really enjoy it :D

I used it to help my very ditch shy horse jump ditches. He know has quite a chance eventing now.

Have also used it with my other chap to teach spanish walk, he does it beautifully now and really helps him use his shoulders well in proper work. :)

Yes - its really good!

I'd suggest you read "don't shoot the dog" by Karen Prioir, it really explains the principals of this.
