Hey all!!!

Can someone explain clicker training to me please? Like what it is, how and when to use it? and how to teach it?

Also can you only do it for food orientated dogs???

Thanks!

have a look at this website

I have had far more success with clicker training on horses than dogs.

None of my current dogs (2 GSD's and a hound mix) are the slightest bit food orientated and totally don't 'get it' (mind, 2 out of the 3 were admittedly at the back of the line when brains were being handed out)

I have used all the 'treats' I've read about on here and nothing tempts them.

enfys, thank GOD! I am so glad its not just mine! mine has plenty of brain, but just isnt that interested in praise. Of ANY kind! (not kidding!) but Im working on it, so hoping we will figure something out eventually!

Think clicker training might be a no go for my puppy! damn

There's a great site here http://www.equineclickertraining.com on equine clicker training (yes you can use it with your horse - it's great for teaching ground manners as well as teaching new commands under saddle).

Alternatively, if you're just after k9 clicker info, you might want to try Karen Pryor's clicker site - http://www.clickertraining.com.

Nice one for giving it a go - it is a very rewarding way to train, and does wonders for the human/animal bond. You might want to join a clicker-oriented board to get specialised support for any questions you have while you train.

Have fun!
