Hi there

My 12 year old mare has developed a nasty clicking sound in her near hind, it sounds like its coming from the pastern or fetlock area. She's sound, and has been out eventing, however, the sound makes my toes curl (bit like nails on a blackboard!). Last summer a few times her hind pastern/fetlock area did become a bit swollen, so i used magnetic boots for a while, or stable bandages at night, and they seemed to go down, again she stayed sound.

Should I be worried?

Many thanks

I know lots of horses and ponies that do this... ours being one of them (intermittently). When I first heard it I was worried also, so spoke to the vet (top stud vet) who vetted her who assured me that it is absolutely nothing to worry about and that it's something along the lines of fluid expansion in the joint area.... some even do it from the stifle area.

More annoying than worrying :):)
