Clicky hips after nasty fall (me, not horse)?

You could always ring A&E and ask them if they're busy...
I'd forego the doctors and go straight to A&E, save yourself the time. Any decent doc would be packing you off for x-rays anyway.
I came off and landed on my hip, stuggled tomwalk for a few days. Limped for 6 months, and it had a slight dull click for years.
I didn't see the doctor, and I hindsite I probably should - just for physio, as my walk was effected permanently as I learnt to compensate.
Your accident and symptoms sound much worse than mine. Get yourself off today if it's quiet.
Get well soon :)

A&E now.

The GP doesn't have an x-ray machine or a scanner.

I didn't go when I'd cracked my arm - good job I didn't get pulled over when I was driving for a week! Not sure my insurance would have covered me :(

I didn't go when I broke my back - well, not for two days anyway. Rather glad I did, although it pained me at the time (in more ways than one!).

Numbness. Clicking. Swear-making pain. Hip / plevis area.

Go get checked out please m'duck.

Take change, a book, a snack and a bottle of water - but don't have the last two until they say you can.

Ouchy, poor you.

X-rays yes. As the wife of a GP and the practice manager of a physio practice, I'd recommend you go to A&E!

However, The fact is that your wait at the GP tomorrow plus the wait at X-ray with a referral from GP will still probably be shorter than the wait at A&E today. One option is to call out of hours GP services and ask for advice.

If you wait though you must take it very easy, and if you have any issues with loss of continence you must go straight to hospital. Sorry to be blunt but it's a massive red flag.

As beesknees and obeRon said.
I would go to a n e now if it was me or first thing in mornin. My OH broke his collar bone on Sunday got fixed up at hospital where he did it and we went up to ours first thing mon.
BUT with your symptoms i wouldn't wait not worth it. Have you a local district hospital that does minors they will x ray with much lower waiting time.
Ring your hospital and ask if there busy. I wouldnt bother with doctor they will only refer for x ray anyway.

For normal people - yes.

For horsey people and Police officers...no :D.

A hairline fracture is something you can still function on. On the other hand, it could be nothing but internal bruising and swelling pressing on your nerves.

An X-ray is the only way to tell for certain.

The problem with horsey people is that they carry on functioning (albeit slowly) on such injuries and by the time you wander to medical help - they think, "Oh well, they've been walking around OK for a few days...so nothing will be broken...." And hence things get missed :(

I would definitely agree with this. I had a non riding fall last weekend and landed hard with my back across the towing parts of a caravan, I struggled for days but went to doctors when my breathing was too difficult to cope with. Doctor sent me straight to a&e. Despite the pain in my whole side and at the point where my spine hit there is no bruising or swelling so they just did a chest x ray which was clear and gave me antibiotics because I didn't have an infection but I'd had a cough for 3 weeks! They didn't xray my back because I was walking about ok for a few days. I am still in pain, worse because compensating for that has caused the usual disc to prolapse again, and my breathing is even worse. I just cannot stand the thought of another 5 hours in a&e so will put up with it until I can't any longer - but I am 'old' and just don't think it is the same as a youngster setting themselves up with problems later on.

Please go to A+E and get an X-ray I walked on my broken hip Its probally not after this time but I thought mine could not be broken because I walked on it good luck let us know how you get on.

OK - so I took myself off to A&E first thing . . . x-rays show no fractures or breaks but my right hip is slightly out (as in ball is not properly in the socket) and doc reckons my symptoms are consistent with several things . . . trauma to my sciatic nerve, trauma to the hyaline cartilege (sp?), slight dislocation and a general weakening of the muscles, ligaments and tendons holding the ball into the socket. He is recommmending three weeks bed rest . . . but that's just not practical . . . so I'm compromising with crutches, lots of help at the stables and keeping movement to a minimum. Very, very achy today. Seems the force of the fall onto my left hip, pushed my right hip out of alignment!

Thanks for all the encouragement/support ladies.

Do try to follow the doc's advice.
Over 20 yrs ago I fell off an unbalanced 4 yr old when we disagreed about which way to go. I tor a muscle in my back, got straight back on and rode home but needed help to get off. I'm a teacher and it was school hols, so didn't need a cert for time off work, so didn't go to docs.
I still, all these years later, have problems with the muscles seizing up. The last major episode was last summer, I couldn't move for 3 weeks and had to contact the doctor. I often get 'reminder' twinges.

Very glad you went. Now behave! Three weeks of rest may be frustrating now but it's nothing compared to a lifetime of aches and pains that could have been avoided :)

Glad to hear there's no fracture. Good news.

Do rest as much as you can and use some of that time to find a good musculoskeletal osteopath or physio. Not chiro. You really dont want cracking right now!

Go by personal recommendation if you can, so ask anyone you can think of! They will help you to recover good function and movement once the acute trauma has settled. Really worth the cost, but do find someone experienced.

Best of luck!
