Hi.
I am a self employed freelance groom and run my own equine services business. I did a lot of clipping over winter and I am seriously thinking of revising my prices for next winter but don't want to be over priced! The reason iI am thinking of revising them isthat on many an occassion I ended up being done out of money for not charging enough as I would turn up and the horse be mega wooly and take ages to clip or the coat was so filthy the clippers would struggle and end up dulling a set of newly sharpened blades after just one clip etc ! So just wondering what people pay for different kinds if clips from someone offering clipping as a service (not mates rates of what your friend does it you for!!) I am fully insured for everything that I do so I need to also account for insurance costs in my prices.
Thanks in advance.

Always ask if it's a first clip or a second one that will give you an idea about how long it's going to take. And always refuse to clip a filthy horse.

Prices vary, but for a full clip I would expect to pay around £30.

The groom who comes to my yard, fully insured, etc charges

£50 full clip, hunter or blanket +£10 for hog/feathers on cobs
£30 "trace" (I think? Line from wither diagonally down to stifle)
£20 minimum charge for anything less

(she is always busy )

// I do my own but I don't touch other people's horses. I don't like clipping, which is a shame as with seasonal insurance it would be worth my while just on my own yard!

Thanks for the replies. Going by what Soot said I think I'm definitely under cutting my self with my prices! Will have to have a re think of what I'm going to charge this winter!

Friend of mine charges similar rates to soot.

£50 for full extra £10 for hogging or feathers
£35/£40 for blanket/high chaser
£25 for trace
£20 for neck & belly/bib clip

Also make sure you factor in for fuel on top especially if doing more than 10 miles or so.
