Foolowing the clinics thread, thought i post afew videos from a clinic with Susie Gibson (bsja coach of the year) at Aintree i went to at the start of the week.
I took my 5 year old mare, (although she is 4 years in her work etc, as bred a foal last year.) Some may remember me buying her, she was my cheap BOGOF! I have regular lessons with Susie, but this mare has only had 3 lessons.
Started off over some uprights, then strung some related distances together, and a double.
I was a little worried as i was put in the 90-1m group, my mare hasnt jumped many fences of that size yet, and not seem many fillers. (apart from the clear round she did at Aintree afew weeks ago.)
Anyway, we were in a group of four, found it extra interesting as learnt lots more from problems the others were having too.

CC is welcome, dont be too harsh tho! I am made up with her, she loves her jumping. Also to tip it off Susie loves her, and said she has the X factor! lol!

Looked really good. Isn't she smooth and calm!

Thanks for that - I keep thinking about going on those clinics, so nice to see what they're like...

Calm?!- well not initally she was like a bull in a china shop, just wanted to get to the fences!

I found it brilliant for my mare, because there were 4 other horses in there and she is abit stressy and can kick etc, but them being in there made her relax, she even allowed horses to stand next to her! (unheard of before!) I had lessons with susie for 6 years ish now, she explains things better than anyone ive been taught by. Might see you at one in the future!

Thanks, she feels like she finds everything easy! She does however seem to think she knows best!- and we get some hairy moments when she sets against me!

I can;t see the vids unfortunately as am at work.

HOWEVER, she sounds fab, you must be so excited about doing more with her next year! If you see anymore BOGOF's, can I have the OF please?! :p

She looks fab! I can see what you mean, she's very confident bless her :)

I'm taking my youngster to a SJ clinic tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous tbh as don't know what to expect. Hopefully it will b fine and good experience :)

What a sweetie, she's lovely. I wish there were more clinics like that around me i'd love to take my 4 year old to something like that

She looks great - so confident for a 4yo.

Really interested to read this as Susie does clinics locally to me but the few people I know (mainly eventers tbh, but one person who has sj'd to foxhunters) find her difficult to get on with. I have watched one lesson years ago and she had a novice/intermediate eventer doing cavaletti and not letting them progress until she was happy with them! I think she spends a lot of time on the rider's position which is great but have heard a lot of people quite depressed afterwards (and these are people who can take criticism!)

How do you find her in this respect? I could really do with some good sj training - have had help from Andrew Hamilton in the past (and he's not shy to criticise!!) but unfortunately hasn't been over our way for a while now due to lack of facilities.

Arena at Aintree looks seriously impressive.

I have trained with susie for well over 7 years i think now. (started with my 148) I find her brilliant, wouldnt used anyone else. She explains things so well, even puts them in terms thats my non- horsey dad understands. She works alot on you as the rider, rarely blames the horses. She doesnt take any cr*p either, very straight talking, and to the point. However maybe more so with me as she knows me? I find its alot of small changes she picks up on that make a big difference.

I can only say to try a lesson, and see how you get on maybe?

To the other comments, thank you. Shes going to Kelsalls dressage champs this weekend coming. Although i think she maybe prefer jumping the dressage boards, she was bad enough for that last time she went! But know she seems to think shes a show jumper!!

Wow..i must say, if you say she hasn't seen many fillers - she didn't bat an eyelid at any of them! She definitely seems like she has the right temperament and attitude for that job. Well done. Very confident horse and looked like she enjoyed herself.

She has seen a wall, and plank thats it. At the clear round the fillers were either side of fence, so she was so good to jump them underneath and not even notice them!
