Clinics at Private Homes/Yards - insurance question

I have been to a few clinics which have been held at private homes or private livery yards.
If the instructor who attends has insurance cover, is that OK? Or what would happen if there was an accident and the person hurt wanted to sue the yard or the individual owner?

Or similarly, if a group of friends got together and went to a cross country course and had an instructor, is everything covered, or should we only do things like this through via a Pony Club or Riding Club?
 
I organise clinics. I only use venues that have proper public liability cover in case there is an accident that is arguably their fault. So it tends to be livery yards or riding schools, although one small venue did take out their own for the couple of events they had per year. The instructor is also insured. I also make it a booking condition that all people coming have public liability insurance covering their horse. I don't want any gaps in cover that I might fall into personally.
 
Your own insurance should cover you and every training venue I have been to as requested that I complete a disclaimer, ie riding at my risk.
