Hi, how do things stand with clip markings and being in the show ring? I clipped for the second time quite late and my new forest x has a a definate still clipped look! I have been told this is not good for showing and we have a show on Saturday! Are we going to be severely marked down for this? what does everyone think?

I clip and show, but i clip the whole lot off including legs and do the bridle line where the bridle sits so the only bit noticeable is at the top of the tail.

What clip have you done?

He lives out all year so I left his bum on and clipped a blanket clip but levelled it off down towards base of his belly - so not even a conventional clip! yikes

Its early still, I'm sure you will be fine.

Mine hasn't got any clip marks, but I clipped in January then rugged up lots, and got her coat by the start of March, it does take time and effort to get it early, but I'm pretty damned sure you won't be the only one with clip lines.

OH's horse still has his head and leg lines.

I was out showing at the weekend and there were a number of horses/ponies still with the definate clip look - yes it looks better if you haven't got it but I wouldn't worry too much. I have seen the type of clip you have done more than once.

If you coat is in good condition and looks nice and shiny and your horse goes well you will be ok - there are worse things to get you marked down.

If you keep your horse warm (not sweating and over heating) ie don't let him get cold over night it will encourage the summer coat through and in a few weeks you will hardly notice the lines

Now you know how your horses coat grows time your clips accordingly next year - I would usually do october and early January however some do a late clip with natives just as the coat is starting to lift and take the whole lot off so they have a summer coat without all the scrubbing out of hair. If yours is living out this probably isn't a good idea as there is nothing worse than the wispy look they get if they have got cold.

Just go and have fun - thats supposed to be why you do it - and in any event you will have a full summer coat soon enough.

Good luck

I was at the bsps winter champs last weekend...most ponies still had clip marks. If he's started moulting get to work with a grooming block along the clip lines and try to blend them in.

I am in the same situation, i have a show on Sunday and my horse still has a really obvious clipped look.i had the same proplem last year but didnt really seem to be marked down for it.

Im just looking forward to have a full summer coat!!
