Clip-on leg straps for TO rugs?

In these persistent high winds I need to fit leg straps to my t/o's that only have a filet string behind.

Filly was out last Friday night in her Rhino Combo rug, but I found her in the morning with the whole back end swivelled around to her chest, hanging down around her legs; the surcingles up behind her elbows and the filet string snapped off where she'd trodden on it

Needless to say, she was not a happy bunny being exposed in all that wind and rain after being used to being nicely rugged.

So...... anyone use the clip-on style leg straps? Do they work okay?
 
I haven't used them as I am an avid hater of leg straps but this should never have happened with this rug so I would look into that but if this had have twisted over with leg straps on then it could have been a hell of a lot worse.
 
I have my horses at home and have seen what happens with a rug with a built in neck and no leg straps. Horses usually stand tail into the wind and heads down, Even with a tight fillet string the wind gets under the back end of the rug and blows it up and forward. i have on several occasions seen the rug blow over the horses head and they have stepped out of the surcingles. This doesn't seem to happen as much to the rugs without neck covers . I now use rugs with leg strps and the problem seems to have been eliminated.

Well, it might not have SUPPOSED to have happened but it did!, and let's face it - last Friday night was blowing a hooley. I've been using Rambos and Rhinos for absolutely donkey's years and never ever had this happen before. BUT it did on Friday, and I don't want it happening again.

With legs straps AND a fillet string, plus properly secured x-surcingles and a full neck cover at the front, I'm pretty sure the rug wouldn't twist and blow forward again. In any case, high quality rugs have straps with quick-breaking-points to prevent injury in the event of a tangle, so I am not unduly concerned personally at using them for my horses if needs be.
 
No thats cool, it's just I dont like them but then I have a stupid hooley that probably would get tangled in them if he could. Only a personel opinion. The leg straps I have seen though don't have the quick breaking point though so if they did then it wouldn't concern me as much
