Hi I am looking to buy middle of the road set of clippers to use to clip one horse - not too hairy. I have found three models and would welcome any thoughts that anyone might have on any of them, or other suggestions. They are Liveryman Arena C130, Lister Star and Heineger (spelling??) Progress. Cheers:confused:

Hi,
If you have already narrowed it down to them 3 clippers then I suggest you already have a very good idea of what you want!

The choice for me would be a simple one. I would firstly disregard the lister star. Thats not to say its a horrible clipper, its just outclassed by the heineger! Although it is lighter than the other two it does vibrate a fair amount which will leave you feeling fatigued quicker. Whether this is an issue with just one horse is questionable but still... The lister has a plastic head, this will eventually mean replacing the plastic comb studs, that aside, it is otherwise as reliable as the others.

The Liveryman Arena seems to me to be a red herring! It is much more powerful than the other 2 clippers. It is heavier and noisier but then it isn't really that 'light duty' where as the others are. Its fine to spend about the same amount of money and get more power but to be honest you don't really need it! For one horse I would suggest buying the lighter, more agile and flexible, quieter and smoother clipper...the Heineger Progress.

It is slightly more powerful than the lister star, looks really cool and as said above is more agile than both the others. It has a really nice slimline design so its easy to hold with low vibration which makes it s pleasure to work with.

Therefor the Heineger progress is my recommendation, it really is the best light duty clipper on the market at the moment.

Out of those three I would concur with Mr Shear ease! The C130 is as far as I know of Chinese origin, the Lister, is not as good as the old Stablemate thus leaving the Progress. They are small in the body so easy to hold, although they have a "sealed motor" which if it goes pop is expensive, however, that said if your budget is such, they are the best of the three.
