I brought a pair of Liveryman Arena Plus Clippers last year and did about 6 clips in total with them.

Do you think i should get the blades sharpened? If so any suggestions as to good places for doing this?

Also how often should you have your clippers serviced?

I've had my clippers two years then had the serviced because the battery wasn't holding its charge. I used Whal clipping service, post them out they sharpen and return withing 3 days!!! But mine are Whal clippers.

Some saddlers do the sharpening but it costs more than sending direct to the manufacturers.

I normally get my blades sharpened every 6-8 clips and then after each winter I get my dad to service them (saves me lots). Ive got the Wolseley swift and Heiniger cordless clippers s

thank you guys

Ive found somewhere online who does them, £7.50 for the blades (including posting) and £40 for the servicing. im just going to go for the sharpening this time, and get them serviced next year i think.

from what my dad says, the servicing isnt that big a job. undo some screws, vacuum the hair out and oil the parts - obviously replace any worn parts but as mine are new and dont really get that much wear. He did ask me once how much servicing was then told me I could pay that to him instead as I didnt have to wait for them to be posted out to me - the cheek! bought him a box of thorntons toffee (kept him quiet!) Cant you find a mechanically minded guy to do it for you? im lucky my dad strips and rebuilds motorbikes as a hobby so a pair of clippers is nothing to him!

I get my blades done by clipper sharp. I think they are in Devon? OH has always looked after the servicing and I get my blades sharpened after two full clips.

I get my blades sharpened by Shear Ease, which costs £6.70 with FREE postage and they come back within 1 working day.

I haven't had my clippers serviced yet, mine were new 11 months ago, think I've used them about 12 times, but I'll get my uncle to do them anyway.

I used Clipper Sharp too (got mine from them) and found them really good - sold the clippers to a friend who has waited two weeks so far for the blades to come back from sharpening at a local country store

I did tell her to post them off!

I'd send them off to Clippersharp or Eddie Palin.

In the mean time, Take the blades off, use a small brush, and give all the working parts a good clean. Use proper clipper oil on the blades themselves.

Make a point of washing the horse first to get any mud out, as well as stripping and cleaning the clippers after each clip, and you will get a lot more life out of them. Oil them every couple of minutes as well !

my horses are always spotless when i clip

And i do oil them every couple of minutes aswell

I shall give them a good brush and clean and have already sent the blades off now to be re-sharpened

Depends on the coat you are clipping but if its a hairy one you can blunt them doing 1 full clip!

I have 4 sets of blades as i do mobile clipping and i alwyas use shear ease. Always do a fab job in a fast time and send them back well packed oiled and protected and its free postage.
