Does anyone in the Essex/Cambridge area (around Saffron Walden possibly) know of any good clipper blade sharpeners?

I sent mine off last year through the West Essex Saddlery and they came back blunt, which wasn't great.

Any recommendations welcome, I don't mind posting them off if I have to if you know anywhere amazing!!

Who did you send them to? Mine have gone off to (The?) Stock Shop in the past, a couple of times, and they are truly dreadful. Blades came back blunt both times and they broke my clippers when they were sent (via a local tack shop) to be serviced :( I guess the only other people are ************ but don't know if they're any good. I used to use someone local but I've moved out of the area now.

Can't help you with where to send them but can offer a tip to keep them sharper for much longer.

Dirt and Heat blunt blades really fast.

Mix diesel and engine oil together, equal amounts of each, in a wide deepish container, you need the mix deep enough to be able to dip the blades fully in it.

Listen carefully while you clip to the sound of the clippers and the moment you hear them begin to run slower, dip them in the mix, while still running, you will hear them speed up as the oil washes out the dirt and hair, cools them and lubricates them.

Allow the excess to drain away by holding the clippers on their side, never vertical, and then blot the remainder with a towel.

One year I did 25 full clips on one set of blades without needing to have them sharpened. This tip was given to me by a member of The Household Cavalry when I was clipping the Civil Service Riding Club horses at the Royal Mews.

Just had my 2 sets done by ************ who are based in Devon but have a great web site. (find them via Google). You order and pay for the sharpening via the web site and print off a order confirmation, send them off and they came back perfect. Better still, I posted them on a Tuesday, had an email to say they'd been done and dispatched Wednesday, Thursday morning they were back. Couldn't ask for better service tbh. Used them on the recommendation of a friend and don't regret it at all. Brilliant.

Thank you everyone, will have a look at all of these. Greylegs, the one you used has been starred out... could you pm me who you used? they sound fab! as do shear ease :) Tnavas that's interesting!! When they're sharp again I will be trying this! :)
