I bought a pair of Moser Avalon's last week but the blades keep getting stuck and won't move. I havent even attempted to clip with them yet as I am trying to desensitise my horse. I haven't clipped before but a friend looked at them and said there was enough oil on them. They are the steel blades not the ceramic ones which I know people have had problems with. I will contact the company I bought them from but has anyone got any suggestions?

Mine get stuck when they get hair in them and need fully cleaning out.

I am at a loss if you haven't clipped with them yet, maybe a manufacturer fault with the blades.

Take them apart, oil them liberally in all the spots (usually red paint marked holes on them) and then put them back together again, making sure the spring is in place.
Tighten them as hard as you can with the screw on the top, then release it 1 and 2/3 of a turn...this should be about the right tension.
Hope that helps you

PS Always use a circuit breaker.

I read a post from a clipper expert last week that said something like you should release the tension right off and then tighten it until you hear the tone of the clipper noise change...as its bad to over tighten them as this also blunts the blades.

The instruction book will tell you how many turns from fingertight you should make.

All types are different so either check back with the booklet or phone the makers to check.

The Avalons are the cordless clippers that don't need tensioning - I have them. I would suggest you contact the seller - one set of my blades kept jamming last year and the seller (Paddock Perfection) replaced them as the internal screw was not tight enough on the blades to keep the tension correct. If I recall correctly, german made blades are good but American are not - anyway as you have not even clipped yet talk to the seller and hopefully they will replace the blades, good luck.

You shouldn't run them until you've loosened them, obviously.
