I had 4 sets of used blades sharpened recently; they were returned clean and gleaming but when I tried to use them- no use whatsoever! When I have had blades sharpened previously they have worked but not that well. So- is it actually worth getting them sharpened or do most people just chuck them and get new ones each time? Or am I missing something?? Thanks

Whenever I buy clipper blades or friends of mine do, we mostly just get them sharpened maybe once then just buy new ones after one sharpening. They just aren't as good as new blades when you get them sharpened!

i have my blades sharpened. i would suggest you contact the company that sharpened them and they should rectify the problem for you. i prefer sharpened blades to new ones as new ones tend to be a bit scratchy til they bed in. sometimes baldes dont sharpen well if they are not good steel.

Hmm, they are proper Lister blades. One of the sets was having its first sharpening so should have been OK..I am wondering whether they got knocked about in transit or something..Thanks!

I have 4 sets of blades. The oldest are over 20 years old now and have been regulalry sharpened. They may not last as long between clips (probably 4 horses now rather than 6-8 when new) - but I wont be throing them away.
I suggest you ask them to resharpen them at their expense!
However, if you do decide you want to throw yours please aim them in my direction. LOL

Ooh thanks toffeesmarty, I will try to retrieve the blades (discarded all over the place in frustrated rage!) and get them re done :-)

I have mine sharpened can't afford to chuck them away, I found a really good chap in Anglesley, Wales I send them off in a prepaid jiffy bag and he has them back to me within 2 days as sharp as razors, I've tried loads of companies and this one is the best.

chuck them at £40 quid a set ? erm nope ha ha, perhaps its where you are sending them to be sharpened, have you used the same place each time ?

My friend sent mine away to somewhere in cornwall last year and they were fine, had my clippers serviced with eddie palin this year and had the blades sharpened, haven't used them yet, will let you know, might do him this weekend
