I am needing to buy some clippers to keep my cobs legs free of hair and mites. Dont need to clip horse otherwise so does anyone know of trimmers clippers that would cope with bristly legs without me spending out on a £150 plus set. I have tried Wahl dog clippers but they cant get through the hair. Legs are growing out a clip at mo so about half an inch of hair. I got someout out to do last time but at £20 a go it makes sense for me to get my own. Thanks

I dont think you will be lucky and find any trimmers that do this... if you mean the little hand-held ones. the blades on these are designed to trim ears, whiskers and those silly little whispy 'feathers' that the lighter types have (ie TB - not feathers that you or i know!!) & the blades on these will only do a stripe then go blunt. I think you will need to get a big pair - even the blades on these will only last half a years worth of clipping at the most before (more if you clip less regularly) you will need them sharpened. If your Cob has typical coarse hair on their legs you should probably invest in a coarse pair of blades too. these are mainly for hogging but will last longer (before sharpening required) than the finer blades - normal blades used for clipping come with the clippers.

Sorry to not be much help but i think you would need about 4 pairs per legs of the little trimmers!

I had a hairy legged cob and bought a pair of dog clippers/trimmers from my local pet shop. Used them for years succesfully! the secret is to hold them lightly on the hair and just keep working through the hair rather that trying to take the whole lot of in one fair swoop like you would with 'normal' clippers.
