I have a set of electiric sheep clippers, which will take blades for cattle clipping, rather than buying a full set of horse clippers I am wondering if it is possible to clip the horses with cattle clippers? Has anyone done this and was it succesful? It would make life cheaper and easier :)

No idea about cattle clipping blades but I guess there's only one way to find out! No reason in my mind why they wouldn't do the same job - clipper blades are clipper blades after all. I guess it just depends on how close a clip they give and is it what you want?

Cattle clipper blades are much coarser than horse ones so they're OK if you have a cob type with a rugged coat and don't want a close clip.

Some cattle/sheep clippers can have horse grade blades attached. I would direct you to our local farm shop Alliance Pastoral but it's a bit of a treck from England!

Have a look online using the make of clippers you have as a guide and see if you can get them. Heiniger can definately be interchanged.

Just in case you're interested here's the link to Alliance Pastoral.....

Thank you so much for this, I think my sheep shears are Heiniger, so will toddle off to our local farm supply shop, with the clippers and see what they can do :) Think your local shop is a bit far for clipper blades, could probably get the clippers for the price of the journey :D

You are very welcome.

It's great to know my humble knowledge is useful! I actually found out about the clippers by accident last week. Spooky how things turn out isn't it!

As for the journey - ryanair to Poitiers is v cheap! ;-)
