Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, and am desperately looking for advice about clippers. I've read so many differing articles I'm befuddled!!

I have a very hairy beastie, who knows what his breeding is, but think oversized fluffy cob type. He is going to need a trace to start with as the new stable block is yet to be finished so is living out (hoping it will be done for winter proper) and then ideally probably a hunter clip.

Now I've never had a cob, so his fur is ridiculous to me, I borrowed some clippers from a friend last year, some ancient wolseleys and they coped but only just. So what would people recommend? I'm thinking I want mains, as I'm worried with just him to do a battery pack I'll kill by not using enough? I've been looking at liveryman black beauty (but worried they are a bit unknown, liked the sound of turning up/down speed but is that a bit gimmicky?), wolseleys lark (bit put off from my experience with friends clippers), lister legend, heiniger xperience or masterclip ranger (seem too cheap but supposedly for cobs?!)

Anyway, sorry for such a long message and hope someone might have some advice! Thanks in advance!

I have the master clip rangers as needed clippers and quick, were a good price. The clippers themselves are great but the blades arnt. I bought heienger blades that fit the rangers and they are great.

Can only really go by what I've used but I got the Heiniger Handy Clippers, I've had them at least 10 years now and they were actually bought second hand so they could be up to 12 years old but you would have no idea! They have always done really well on every type of horse I've clipped. Some seasons I would clip loads others just my own but have no complaints. They are fairly heavy duty so don't struggle when it comes to real fluffy creatures. I think now there are newer ones out there which are quieter but on the basis there is nothing wrong with mine (touch wood) then we'll just keep going :) I am very meticulous about cleaning them thoroughly after every use which I do think pays in the long run. Also using good quality clipper oil - still use the original blades (obv get them sharpened)

I have the Heineger progress clippers and had them over 10 years i bought them as i had a nervous horse at the time and they said they were very queit, have clipped all kinds of horses and can honestly say never had a problem with them, I always buy the Heineger blades they are not the cheapest but the clipper machine is only as good as the blades really, there are a lot of cheap blades on ebay and they are just not worth buying, and I can also agree with what the poster above about the masterclip blades a girl in the yard next door had brand new clippers and blades and they just were not cutting properly.

I've got a hairy cob who I fully clip out. I use the Liveryman Red Rocket clippers, and they're amazing on his very thick and coarse coat! They're mains clippers but are fairly quiet and light (in comparison to other mains clippers I've used).
